    Exposition of the 2300 Days of Daniel 8:14 and the

    70 Weeks of Daniel 9:24-27

    Introduction

    In Daniel 8: 13,14 a question is asked, "How long shall the vision concerning the dailysacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the hostto be trodden underfoot?" The answer, "Unto two thousand three hundred days; thenshall the sanctuary by cleansed."

    This vision was not understood and a man's voice called on Gabriel to, "make this man(Daniel)to understand the vision." Dan. 8:16.

    At Dan. 9.21-23 Gabriel "touched me at about the time of the evening oblation" saying "Iam now come forth to give thee skill and understanding... consider the vision."

    We are now to embark on a journey to reveal Gabriel's disclosure of the vision. It is asacred journey.

    Gabriel's answer lies within verses of Dan. 9:24-27:

    9.24 "Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finishthe transgression, and to make an end to sins, and to make reconciliation for inequity, andto bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision of prophecy, and to anointthe most Holy.

    9.25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment

    to restore and build Jerusalem unto Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks: the streetshalt be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

    9:26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not forhimself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and thesanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the wardesolations are determined.

    9.27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midstof the week he shall cause sacrifice and oblation to cease, and for theoverspreading of abominations, he shall make desolate, even until theconsummation, and that determined shall be poured up the desolate."

    Let's summarise the main features of Gabriel's declaration to be found in threeperiods of time - 7 weeks, 62 weeks, and the final 1 week:

    1. - seventy weeks determined upon thy people

    2. - to finish transgression

    3. - make an end of sins

    4. - make reconciliation for inequity

    5. - bringin everlasting righteousness

    6. - to seal up the vision of the prophecy and

    7. - to anoint the most Holy

    The seventy weeks is broken into three time period:

    - 7 weeks - from the going forth of the commandment to restore and build Jerusalemuntil

    - 62 weeks - after three score and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but notfor himself

    - 1 week - he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week, and in the midstof the week he shall cause sacrifice and oblation to cease

    In Hebraic writings seven or a multiple of seven had special meaning, alwaysrepresenting completeness or a period of forgiveness as answered by Peter's question"Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him?" Jesus said, "Untilseventy times seven" (70 X 7 =490). This period of 70 weeks of Dan. 9:24 is a perfectillustration.

    Contention of Paper

    This paper contends that these versus of Dan, 9:24-27 deal with circumstances in bothpre-exilic and post-exilic Jerusalem. To resolve the answer given by Gabriel firstly the

    commencement of the 70 week period needs to be identified, and then trace the 7 weeks,the 62 weeks and the final 1 week.

    The paper will show 2,300 days of Dan. 8:14 are part of the final "one week" period ofDaniel's "seventy weeks". It is going to be step-by-step, here a little, there a little,resolution until we get to the discovery of the 2,300 years period.

    Everything mentioned fits into a pattern. The end result is conclusive, clearlyunderstood and completely undermines theological dogma espoused.

    Part 1 - Identification of the first 483 (69 X 7) years of a 490year period - Pre-Exilic

    Background

    The 69 weeks from the command to restore and build Jerusalem of Dan. 9:25 up toDan. 9:26 which states "shall the Messiah be cut-off" is one illustration, but brokeninto an initial 7 weeks, and a final 62 weeks. There is a reason for this break, whichis documented.

    The narrative gives the story of the 1sttemple, which you will see, and Ezekiel in parabletells of the iniquity of Israel and Judah in the times of this temple. The principle of a day-for-a-year applies to the entire 69 weeks. Ezekiel 4:1-6 covers the temple pre-exilicperiod. This is stated as being the iniquity of the house of Israel for 390 years - Eze. 4:5.This iniquity or idolatry commenced in 975 BC (ceremonial year), by the Jewish sacredyear calculation, when two calves of gold were made for the people to worship. "AndJeroboam ordained a feast in the eight month on the fifteenth day in place of Feast ofTabernacles" - see 1 Kings 12:28-33. This period is 975 - 390 = 585BC. From 585 B.C.Israel was in captivity. Ezekiel also documents the house of Judah. "Thou shalt bear theiniquity of the house of Judah 40 days (years)" - Eze. 4:6. This time of subjection beganwhen Josiah's reform or repair of the temple was ignored by the people in 625 BC

    (ceremonial year) see 2 Kings 23:1-27. Likewise, 625 - 40 =585 BC brings us tocomplete Babylonian captivity. This background is necessary to trace all the ceremonialyear-dates, to show how Ezekiels exposition matches perfectly to that of Daniel.

    Further for the first mentioned of 69 weeks Dan. 9:25-26 we are dealing with 483 years(69 X 7) applying the year-for-a-day principle. Ezekiels390 years, and 40 years, fitsGabriels insight in Daniel.

    All the elements must all be identified and the recorded types found perfectly consistentin both Daniel and Ezekiel:

    1. The first 69 weeks or 483 years of a 490 year period (the final week will be dealtwith after the initial 69 weeks or 483 years is established in Part 2 of this paper.)

    2. The first 7 weeks being 49 years and the second 62 weeks being 434 years,totalling 483 years. Reasons for the split are fully and consistently identified below.

    3. Ezekiels390 years commence in 975 BC and stretch from 975 to 585 BC.

    4. Ezekiels40 years extend from 625 BC and stretch to 585 BC.

    5. Further 483 years should commence in 1021 BC when David commandedSolomon to build a temple 1 Chron. 22:5,6,19 and continues through to the end ofBabylonian captivity (1021- 483 = 538BC). It is shown that Cyrus cut-off Babyloniancaptivity, not for himself (Dan. 9:26), but for the Jewish nation.

    Theologists and public educators have never been able to verify these dates from O.T.sources. It is remarkable that all these dates can be verified, locked-in, from the O.T.This task would appear overwhelming, but it is clearly set out . It is a challenge todogmatists projecting time periods forward literally, calendric historicity.

    Before giving a table documenting the sources, please be aware David's command tobuild the sanctuary of the Lord is traced back through ceremonial years and the lengthsof the reigns of each of the kings of Israel and Judah. These are written throughout thebooks of Samuel, Kings and Chronicles. Sometimes the dates of the reigns are countedfrom the beginning of the ceremonial years. Note well that the ceremonial years do notalign with the civil calendars - the ceremonial years fit into a complete pattern which is490 years in duration to have complete fulfillment. The 490 years cannot behistoricized. It is the purpose of ceremonial not to histor icise in chronological, calendric

    time. Cyrus decree is tied to the historical 536 BC as this date is well known and helpsthe Biblical student to calculate Davids prophecy.

    The dates of reigns of the ceremonial years are designed to fit a pattern tracing thetemple construction, destruction and restoration pointing symbolically to the temple of theheart of each individual. The ceremonial years documented in the table match 490 years(7 X 70) and must not be literalised as chronological calendar periods. The ceremonialyears match Gabriel's revelation, the two go hand-in-hand so to speak ... and the endresult is the revelation, the understanding of the 2,300 days of Dan. 8:14.

    Well before David's era, the Philistines had taken the ark of God. Men of Kirjath-jearimhad fetched it and brought it into the house of Abinadah and later taken it to Obededom.Finally the ark arrived in the city of David - see 1 Sam. 5-7 and 2 Sam. 6:16. Before David

    died he commanded that Solomon build the temple.

    Details of Identification

    David's command to Solomon is recorded in 1 Chron. 22:5-19. David (a warrior) chargeSolomon to build the temple for the ark and gave him details of the pattern. David said toSolomon, "Take heed now; for the Lord hath chosen thee to build an house for thesanctuary: be strong and do it - see 1 Chron. 28: 10-20. This symbolical representation is

    set at 1021 BC having worked backward from Cyrus decree Ezra 1:1 in 536 BC.

    From this commencement, seven weeks of 7 days of years = 49 years follow until thedivision of the 483 years (69 X 7) occurs. Forty nine years after 1021 is 972 BCsacredyear (ceremonial). This is the fifth year of the reign of King Rehoboam of Judah, "And itcame to pass in the fifth year of king Rehoboam Shishak king of Egypt came up againstJerusalem, because they had transgressed against the Lord." 2 Chron. 12:1,2.

    Continuing Dan. 9:25 after "seven weeks," and three score and two weeks = 62 X 7 daysfor a year - 434 years - 434 years after 972B.C. is 538 B.C. in ceremonial years. There istwo years discrepancy here between Darius the Mede taking the kingdom Dan. 5:31 in538 BC and Cyrus the Persian making a proclamation in 536 BC Ezra 1:1. In this year,

    69 weeks or 483 years after 1021 B.C.'s command to restore and build Jerusalem, Cyrusthe Lord's anointed, Isa. 45:1, the righteous man from the east (personifyingrighteousness) Isa. 41:2, my servant whom I uphold Isa. 42:1, "Messiah the Prince" Dan.9:25, set the Jews free to return to Jerusalem from Babylonian captivity - see 2 Chron. 36:22,23 and Exe. 1:1-3. And "the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troubloustimes." This was fulfilled and recorded in the Book of Ezra.

    Dan. 9:26 "And after three score and two weeks" - 62 X 7 = 434 years since Shishakpillaged the temple in 972 B.C. during Rehoboam's reign in Judah "shall Messiah (thePrince Dan. 9: 25 - Cyrus the anointed) be cut off, but not for himself:"

    This Messiah the Prince is Cyrus the Lord's anointed, as Isaiah explaining Isa. 45:1,Cyrus did cut offthe Babylonian captivity for the Jews, but not for himself. Cyrus wasthis messianic conqueror.

    Importantly, it must be said, the O.T. prophecy is a shadow, a type, pointing forward tothe great delivering substance in antitype, when types converge in spiritual application.The Gospels report the advent of the Messianic body or Prince, personified as Jesus theChrist.

    The Messianic Prince through sincere love, grace, fortitude, gave spiritual sight to theblind, healed the sick, the dumb, the lamb. Lived the way to peace, happiness, progressand prosperity.

    Here ends the story of the pre-exilic Jew and his deliverance from an enemy. A new era isabout to dawn.

    Part 2 - Identification of the final 7 (1 X 7) years of a 490 yearperiod Post-Exilic

    9:26 ... and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and thesanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the wardesolations are determined.

    9.27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midstof the week he shall cause sacrifice and oblation to cease ...

    Here is the last week of the 70 weeks in Dan. 9:24. 1 week = 1 X 7= 7 days of years = 7years (day-year principle). There are 2,520 days of sacrifice and oblation in a 7-year(sabbatical). 360 days a year for seven years. It is in the midst of this time that sacrificeand oblation is ceased.

    This 1 week or 7 years is a fulfillment of the 70 week-period. The first 69 weeks coveredthe pre-exilic era and therefore it would be likely the final week would cover the post exilicera. The question is can the final week be perfectly calibrated to the post exilic era.

    Unlike the pre-exilic era where we have reigns of the Kings and the order to build theTemple, its destruction by Shishak breaking the 69 week period and the 62 weeksspanning therefrom to Babylonian captivity, and Cyrus setting the Jews free but not forhimself, the second post exilic recount is covered within a one week or 7 year period. Thisis the culminating week, symbolized by the ceremonial days over a seven year period. Andin the midst of this symbolic 7 year period sacrifice and oblation ceased. So unlike the first69 week period we are reviewing the post-exilic period in a one week, seven year period. Itis a culminating type to fulfill the 70 week symbolic picture.

    The key feature of this 2520 day period is something happened in the "midst" and themidst is said to be 2,300 (Dan. 8:14) days. Gabriel was told to make this man, Daniel, tounderstand "the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation,to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden underfoot." The answer was "Untotwo thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed." Dan. 8:14.In Dan. 9:27 Gabriel is explaining to Daniel, these 2,300 days shall be in the midst of 1week of 2,520 days of the 7 year sabbatical service.

    The word "midst" derives from CHETBIY - half or middle - middle being a point or a periodof time between the beginning and the end of something. There is no mention of rightbang in the middle. We are also referring to the symbolic ceremonial year of 2,520 daysnot chronological, calendric history. The events are being compressed for understandinginto the final week of the 70 week period. The word midst means whilst something ishappening, or being done. Timing in Hebraic thought is symbolical and completeness andfulfillment are always under consideration.

    The question is can we find the remaining days of 2,520 less the 2,300 days. We must beable to perfectly identify symbolic 220 days of a 2,520 period. That is what has not been

    done by expositors who keep on associating chronology or calendric periods to propose aliteral and exact historical forward prediction. Spirituality uses an accumulation ofsymbols symbolic periods to mould the whole.

    In scriptural principle the interpreting or judgment of symbolic customs is found in Isa.28:9,10 "whom shall he teach knowledge and whom shall he make to understand

    doctrineThem that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts." "Forprecept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here alittle, and there a little." See 1 Cor. 14: 21,22.

    The contention of the paper is that the 2,520 days remaining in the symbolic 7 yearceremonial an accumulation of three symbolic periods:

    1. - 2,300 days - in the midst of the symbolic week sacrificeand oblation ceased - Dan. 8:13,14.

    2. - 10 days - intensified persecution 1 Macc. 1: 54-64

    3. - 210 days - bury the dead and complete cleansing -Eze. 39

    Total

    - 2,520 days =ceremonial year symbol - conclusion,completeness, fulfillment Dan. 9:27

    The destructive prince that comes in the post-exilic age is Antiochus Epiphanes. This isdocumented in Dan. 8. Dan. 8.20 documents, "The ram which thou saw having two hornsare the kings of Media and Persia. And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and thegreat horn that is between his eyes is the first king. Now that being broken four stood up

    for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power."

    And then in Dan. 8:23, "And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the trangressors(apostate Jews Dan. 8:12) are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, andunderstanding dark sentences, shall stand up." In the margin, "are come to the full"means "are accomplished." Dan. 24 continues, "And his power shall be mighty, but not byhis own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practice, and shalldestroy the mighty and the holy people." The words "not by his own power" referenceRev. 17.17 "give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled." -fulfillment of 2,520 ceremonial days.

    Dan. 9.25 continuing to cover Antiochus Epiphanes, "And through his policy also shall hecause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and peaceshall destroy many: and he shall stand up against the Prince of princes (JudasMaccabees); and he shall be broken without hand." The words "he shall be brokenwithout hand" matched to 2 Macc. 9 just as he planned to come to Jerusalem "to make it acommon burying place of the Jews" the Lord Almighty "smote him with an incurable andinvisible plague ... a pain in his bowels that was remediless came upon him, and soretorments of the inner parts." And it came to pass, "that he fell down from his chariot,carried violently" ... "worms rose up out of his body ... his flesh fell away .... no man could

    carry for his intolerable stink." So, "died he a miserable death in a strange country in themountains" ... without hand. He died in the midst of the holy symbolic ceremonial year.

    1 Macc. 1: 54-64 identify the symbolic 10 days of intense persecution - on the fifteenthday of Casleu in the hundred and forty and fifth year, they set up the abomination ofdesolation upon the altar, and build idol altars, throughout the cities of Judah on every

    side." These days are symbolic of the abomination that Antiochus and the apostateJews brought upon the Jewish people.

    Next let's cover now the symbolic 210 days - 7 months of 30 days. Here the reference is toEzekiel 39. Ezekiel speaking prophetically of the post exilic days draws the parallel tosetting "setting thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech andTubal, and prophesy against them." Eze. 38.1. The recollections of the sons of Japhethwere seen as the troublous times that were about to come from the abomination of theGreecian empire and Antiochus Ephiphanes. They were all the sons of Japheth. HereEzekiel concentrates prophetically on the judgment upon Gog and then extensively coversthe description of the temple - gates, tables, chambers, porch, ornaments, altar,ordinances, priests' chambers, priest reproval for polluting the sanctuary ... glory of thetemple, inheritance.

    Now to Eze. 39: 12, "seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, thatthey may cleanse the land." This is the symbolic 210 days of cleansing the temple afterthe 10 days of intense persecution. This is the completion act, " and the people of theland shall bury them(them is inserted here); and it shall be a renown the day that I shallbe glorified, saith the Lord God." With those that remain upon the face of the earth, "tocleanse it: after the end of seven months (210 days) shall they search." "Thus shall theland be cleansed." Completion, fulfillment was the gathering again of the righteous. Thesacred ground restored.

    Then the sacrifice and oblation shall be restored with the feast of dedication after JudasMaccabeus has conquered Antiochus Epiphanes. See 2 Macc. 10:5-8.

    Dan. 9:27. Antiochus Epiphanes and his host of apostate Jews rorted much destructioneven the overspreading or projecting laterally - spreading afar the idols of abominablearmies. But when consummated melts away in amazement. This was the finish oftransgression - make an end of sins, make reconciliation for iniquity, bring in everlastingrighteousness, seal up the visions and prophecy and to anoint the most Holy with the feastof Dedication on the five and twentieth day of the 9th month Casleu. 2 Macc. 10:5-9. Hereanother type of the Messianic hope. Those who were the Messianic body were inprinciple of the same love and devotion as both Cyrus and Judas Maccabeus portrayed.The more we understand of the shadows of the O.T. the more we will understand thegreat Light that came into the world personified as Jesus, Anointed, Messiah in the Gospelantitype. This wonderful "prophecy" is confirmed in the 1,335 days of Dan. 12:12 (see

    other article).

    Conclusion

    Both the final week of the seventy weeks of Dan. 9: 24-27 and 1335 days of Daniel 12.12point to the same final culmination of all and the restoration of peace and tranquillity forthe Jewish nation. That conclusion is definite from Scriptural sources.

    The Jewish writings are entwined, embraided with gold, with type on type pointing to the

    great final antitype for their nation. You would expect the ancient writers to have writtena record of their distinguished personification of history, distinquished by the use ofceremonial year timings the great fulfillment. This portrayal of life, using the written wordwithin ceremonial history and not chronological history lifted the Hebraic writers onto aplain to describe idolatry and backsliding. Latter day literalism has become equivalent tothe idolatry and ritualism that dominated ancient society. By raising the bar the Hebraicwriters have provided a key to further the advance of human concept - using symbols torepresent completion of human consciousness. This gift bestowed has been usurped,hijacked along the road. Once the symbols are understood then we can revert to a fullcommitment of daily and morning oblations - where the Sabbath, that great Light of the sevenstick candle, becomes the period of creative rest - fully complete in sacrificial terms.
