GOLDENPLAY

HOLIDAYCHEER

Henry Lawson Theatre’s unique take on a classic theatre piece

Christmas in July celebrations draw big crowds in Mountains

A brand new theatre production based on the 1979 play by Ernest Thompson, titled ‘On Golden Pond’, will be on show at the

Henry Lawson Theatre.Ethel and Norman Thayer have returned to

Golden Pond for the 48th year.Norman, a retired Professor with heart

trouble and a failing memory, is still observant and eager for life even at the ripe old age of 80. Ethel, 10 years younger, delights in the small things that have enriched their lives and is perfect foil for Norman.

Their estranged, divorced, middle-aged daughter, Chelsea, and her new fi ancé visits them. When Chelsea and her partner depart for Europe, leaving the fi ancé’s son behind, Norman and Ethel are left to look after him.

He quickly becomes the grandchild they have long yearned for, and in them he fi nds the family he always wanted.

Through each other they learn important life lessons, a young future is saved and the family begin to reconcile past differences.

In the fi nal moments of the play, both Ethel and Norman realise that time is now against them, and they will make every moment count. Perhaps there is one last summer to be had at Golden Pond.

‘On Golden Pond’ premieres at the Henry Lawson Theatre, Werrington on Friday, June 29 at 8pm. It will be followed by performances on June 30, July 6, 7, 8, 13 and 15. Tickets are $21 for adults and $15 for concessions. To book or for more information call 4729 1555.
