FWADA is a unique arts organization in a unique American place. Few cities of Fort Worth’s size are privileged to command such a wealth of major art museums, and fewer still have such a vital community spirit. What truly sets Fort Worth apart, however, is the vigorous, longstanding, clearly defined cooperation between the museums, the university art galleries, the non-profit exhibition spaces, and the art dealers, all of which are full working members of FWADA. To fulfill its stated mission to stimulate interest in the visual arts through educa-tional programs, art scholarships, and art competitions, FWADA organizes, funds, and hosts exhibitions of noteworthy art. It sponsors the Fall Gallery Night for members and friends, as well as Spring Gallery Night. All these attainments have created a stable environment that produces a steady stream of top-notch talent, including major local artists who exhibit their work nationally and internationally. Newcomers are frequently dazzled by the quality of work being created in every medium and style. Their passion reinvigorates Fort Worth patrons who have become habituated to the riches that surround them, reminding them anew that the most authentic cultural connection they can make is the one that affords direct communication with the artists who interpret and illuminate the life experience they share through common background and interests. Although the city is justly recognized for its cosmopolitan worldview, it is the local artists and their devoted collectors who are the lifeblood of the Fort Worth art market. The members of the Fort Worth Art Dealers Association are pledged to the maintenance of a high standard of ethical conduct and professional integrity, these businesses furnish a model that gallery associations in other cities might do well to emulate. FWADA is to be commended for its important role as a contributor to the cul-tural and esthetic richness of Fort Worth. – Suzanne Deats

eduardo Aguilar retrospective: Family, Landscape, and Abstractions

Curated by Frederick C. Spaulding

Eduardo Aguilar’s work is characterized by three major themes: The figure and family, landscape experiences, and geometric abstractions. Over his 40+ year career, Aguilar has returned to those themes to build an impressive body of work incorporating the refined hand of a portrait artist as well as the freedom of an abstractionist and the sensitivity of a land-scape photographer.

Alejandro Borges-Gonzalez is an architect born in Caracas, Venezuela. He is a Visiting Associate-Design Studio-Professor at UTA’s School of Architecture. His work is based upon two particular notions. First, is an attempt to investigate the integration of Art and Architecture in which architectural projects carefully develop such relationship as a symbiosis. And the second is an exploration of the relationship between architectural concepts such as light, shadow, projection, transformation, etc., from a psycho-logical perspective, particularly Jung’s theories, where both coexist in a series of dichotomies such as: order/chaos, individual/collective; subject/object; rational/ irratio-nal, conscious/ un-conscious. One will, also, see new works by Rebecca Low, Nic Noblique, Ralph Moresco, Terry Jones, and jewelry by Dale Ousley and Juliette Edgerton

niCholAS WooD RECENT WORKS: DRAWINGS/SCULPTURAL OBJECTSContinuing his studio interests in merging, color, line, form, and reference, Nicholas Wood works within the back and forth dialogue between his drawing and sculptural objects. He regards these objects as 3D paintings and considers the works on paper as a sequence of architectural site plans or details of form simultaneously open to interpretation. The artist notes that “for as much apparent control and specificity in the forms, there is an intuitive quality, a constant give and take in the studio, which becomes essential to their presence on the wall”. The current exhibit presents this recent dialogue of works in wood, clay, and mixed media works on paper.

In “Ties that Bind”, artist Kelly Ingleright-Telgenhoff plays with the intersection of abstraction and realism with landscape and still life painting becoming a means by which to elevate an object that symbolizes identity, memory, or spirituality for the artist. The beauty, strug-gle, and even the ugly components of early formative familial relationships permeate the sometimes humor-ous, haunted, and surreal settings. The calm, quiet, iso-lated, or exposed objects that inhabit the artist’s world are rendered in a realistic, yet, abstracted fashion as a means to pay homage to memories that fade, change, distort and become abstract shapes.
