AFTEr years of planning, the
fourth phase of Fuengirola seafront
promenade has finally been given
the go-ahead by the central
government.
Work on the €4.2 million project
is due to start after the summer and
has been approved at a council
meeting.
The news was announced by the
mayor, Esperanza oña, who
reported that she had received a
letter from the Environmental
Ministry, which approved an
agreement between the town hall
and the government to go ahead
with the work, which has been on
hold for 10 years. The project has
often met with the opposition of the
local socialist party in this time.
reformation works will be
carried out between El Bote
restaurant and the boundary with
Benalmadena, which is an
extension of 1,680 metres, in the
Carvajal area. The project will
make the area similar to the rest of
the seafront, with the same lay-out,
and traffic circulation and parking
will be maintained.
The town hall will put forward
€600,000 which will be made back
over approximately five years
thanks to fees for authorizations for
beach activities in that area, such as
sun beds, beach restaurants and
cooking facilities. These amounts
are normally sent to the central
government, but in this case, they
won’t be.
The central government will
assign the contract for the work
which the mayor said will improve
the quality of life of local residents
as well as attracting more visitors to
the area. She said that she hoped
everyone in Fuengirola would be
pleased with the development.

Facelift forlocal markets
The market stalls will now all have a similar appearance.
The town hall is supporting the event with a donation.
THe stalls at fuengirola’s Tuesday and sunday
street markets have been given a facelift.
The market held at the fairground on Tuesdays,
with more than 530 stalls, will be called
‘Multicolor 1’ and all the stalls will have awnings
of the same colour, as well as front panels in
different colours with the name of fuengirola and
providing information on the type of business and
what they sell. The market on sunday in Calle
Mendez nuñez, with 132 stalls, will be referred to
as ‘Multicolor 2.’
The aim is to smarten up the markets and make
them more attractive to both locals and visitors.
The mayor, esperanza oña, and the councillor
for occupation of the Public way, ignacio
souviron, visited the Tuesday market to see how
the stalls will now look. The Tuesday market in
fuengirola is the biggest in andalucia and one
which attracts the highest number of visitors.
Traders at the market were given six months to
change the appearance of their stalls.
The front panel, which is removable and will
only be used by traders when they are in
fuengirola, is colour-coded, so stalls selling fruit
and vegetables have a green panel;
those selling jewellery and gifts a
yellow panel; clothes and
household items, purple; antiques,
orange; shoes and leather goods,
blue; and those selling nuts and
dried fruits will be magenta.
a panel explaining this will be
placed at the entrance to the
markets. The mayor said there
are also plans for extra shading
between stalls to make visiting the
markets more pleasant in the hot
