Business Analysis Project
Focussing on both strategic and operational aspects this module integrates topics and themes from other modules. This integrative approach will enable you to develop a comprehensive understanding of the issues faced by an organization and the implications of such issues for its well-being.
Decision Making and Problem Solving
Providing the skills and knowledge necessary to develop frameworks and approaches to decision making by critically examining theoretical models and relating them to business experience.
Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Assesses the classical model of entrepreneurship and examines the main characteristics of successful entrepreneurs within both smaller less well known organizations and the more famous names who lead larger organizations. Recent alternative approaches to entrepreneurship will be examined, focussing especially on how to develop an entrepreneurial culture that involves employees at every level within the organization.
Beginning with the importance of creative and integrative thinking followed by reflection on the context of innovation within the modern business environment. Finally the innovation process itself will be examined along with attempts to protect innovations through a variety of intellectual property rights.
Marketing Management
Present day customers are sophisticated consumers of product and service offerings, are mobile, articulate and can discriminate between alternative offers and consequently make choices that hitherto were unthinkable. Individuals and organisations can accept and reject offers quickly, and have portfolios of acquisition patterns that are unpredictable. What was regarded as a market, segmented by socio-economic groupings or benefits has to be re-defined in modern marketing. These issues will be examined using a series of case studies from companies in different paced markets (fast/slow moving), domestic and international settings and combinations of product/service relationships.
Strategic Financial Analysis
This module provides a conceptual and analytical framework for looking at the financial performance of organizations operating internationally in capital, financial and operational markets.
ModuleSynopsis
Organizational Behaviour
This module provides a number of conceptual frameworks to help you make sense of your professional practice and context. Focussing on seeking insights into behaviour in organisations from a behavioural science perspective the module develops your critical awareness of the key debate between contending theories of organisation and management, particularly in relation to organisational processes. The module will evaluate the underlying assumptions of particular perspectives and concepts and what these mean for management practice with each of the topics covered providing a unique perspective on understanding and shaping behaviour in organisations.
Research Methods for Business Management
Providing course participants with the appropriate knowledge, skills and abilities they will need to effectively carry out a piece of small scale business/management research this module places particular emphasis upon developing individuals towards their Masters dissertation/project. Focus is given to the specific issues faced by managers and researchers when carrying out research in an organisational setting. These will include the philosophical aspects of enquiry in social settings, operating in political contexts, negotiating access to key individuals and data, and meeting the research outcomes expected by multiple organisational stakeholders. Consequently, this module will focus on providing individuals with the necessary skills to meet these challenges and therefore effectively plan, carry out and report upon their Masters level dissertation/project.
Strategic Management
Students will explore the rich field of strategic management and how strategic analysis and formulation contribute to an organizations performance.
Postgraduate Major Project
Supports students in preparation and submission of a masters stage project or dissertation. It involves an assessment volume equivalent to 18,000 words and worth 60 credits.
