From The Principals Desk Last week we celebrated SAS (School Administrative and Support Staff) Recognition Week. The SAS staff at CEPS are the backbone of the school, providing a great deal of support to the staff and the students. In the office, Mrs Wann, Mrs Matchett and Mrs Ratnam are the administrative team as well as Mrs Cotterill who assists with the library administration 1 day per week. Our school learning and support officers work in classrooms to assist the teachers to implement the learning programs necessary to support students with additional needs – Mrs Foster, Mrs Henderson, Mrs Conley, Mrs Frew, Mrs Hughes and Mrs Turner. Mr Wells provides our technology support. Finally, are our ground staff Mr Maloney and Mr Lobb who keep our grounds looking great and our facilities maintained. All of these people play an important role in the school and are valued members of the CEPS team. Thank you! Book Week It was great to see lots of families join us to celebrate Book Week at CEPS last week. There were lots of very creative costumes in the parade representing a wide variety of books. Thank you to our student leaders and Mrs Reinhard for organising and running this event, despite the technical difficulties. School Banking Thank you very much to the help of Rebecca Cornish, who has fulfilled the role of School Banking Coordinator this year. There is a considerable time commitment attached to this role, and Rebecca has now handed over the role to Maree Turner and Kayleen Buckton. We thank these two parents for helping in this way so that we can continue to provide the opportunity for our students to learn about saving and becoming financially literate.

Student Achievement and Activities The Macquarie Cup Soccer Competition finished on Friday. Congratulations to the two teams who competed throughout Term 2 and 3 and represented the school with pride and great sportsmanship. Thank you to the many parents who helped with transport and for Mr Lewis for his work preparing the team and with the organisation each week. Our CEPS netball teams, Jnr Hearts and Snr Splice are into the semi- finals of the Macquarie Cup Netball series.

Congratulations to the Premiers Spelling Bee finalists, Annabelle, Arabella, Oliver and Chloe, who competed well in a very competitive field last Monday.

We would like to welcome Elora and Heath and their family to our school. We hope you enjoy your time as part of the CEPS school community.

Have a great week everyone. Michelle Unterrheiner Principal

Fruit & Veg Month 2018 Due to the success of our fruit and veggie day earlier this year, our school has registered for Fruit & Veg Month 2018. The theme for this year is ‘Happy Fruit & Veg’tember!’

Fruit & Veg Month 2018 runs for the last 4 weeks of Term 3, Monday 3 to Friday September 28.

As part of Fruit & Veg Month, children will be involved in various classroom and school based activities which encourage them to eat more fruit and vegetables. Please help support this initiative by talking to your children at home about different fruit and vegetables, as well as packing new ones for them to try during ‘Crunch & Sip’ time at school.

Many thanks, Mrs Michelle Bell Fruit & Veg Month School Coordinator

A big thank you to the wonderful support of Issue 7 of book club. Orders have now closed for this edition and we are eagerly awaiting the books to arrive.

As we approach the last two issues for the year, please note that if you would like to do Christmas shopping from the catalogues we can arrange to keep your orders in the school office for collection. Simply contact the school office and leave a message for me and we will make a note of your request.

Please be reminded that we have moved to online payments through LOOP. Cash payments are no longer accepted.

Thanks so much once again for your support and happy reading! Mrs Melanie Lloyd Book Club Coordinator

This fortnight in our values program we are focussing on democracy.

At CEPS we accept and promote the rights, freedoms and responsibilities of being an Australian citizen. In classes children are discussing how learning together and celebrating diversity can demonstrate our value of diversity. The end of term Principal’s Lunch is not far away and we encourage all our students to keep doing positive things to earn smiley awards for a chance to join the table! Mrs Lloyd, Mrs Bailey and Mrs Bell Tree of Values Coordinators

Student Payments Thank you to all those who have responded to their Statement of Account that was sent home last week, by making payments for fees and events. To help us prepare for the end of year accounting procedures, we would appreciate it if all outstanding amounts could be finalised before the end of Term 3, this includes course fees for Mathletics, Reading Eggs and the Kinder Handwriting Book. Whilst it is voluntary, it is appreciated if the General Voluntary Contribution could be paid as this helps towards the purchase of classroom resources used throughout the year.

Also included on the statement for Year 6 students was the balance for the upcoming Canberra excursion. The final payment for this must be made by Friday October 19 as we need to push the payment through to the travel company who will be managing our excursion.

Please be reminded: • Paying online- If paying online the permission note associated with the event must be returned to the office with your receipt number noted on the slip. • Using credit/fees in advance- If you wish to use fees in advance to pay for an event, please note this on the permission slip.

We had our first Fresh Food Thursday 2 weeks ago. The Mexican Fiesta was a huge success, there was a wonderful buzz around the playground about the yummy nachos and burritos. It was fantastic to see so many children trying something new. Thank you to Marley Harris for sorting all of the orders from our usual canteen menu, and thank you to Belinda Hoad for your help on that day cooking and getting all of the orders out. Our next Fresh Food Thursday will be on Thursday September 20. We will be having pulled pork gravy and coleslaw rolls for $4.50. We will be using some of the cabbage that has been grown in our school garden for our coleslaw. A note has gone home today for this. Please ensure all orders are placed in the lunch order box by 9:15am as no late orders will be accepted and the regular canteen menu will be available on this day. Term 4 roster is almost done and will go home before the end of term. If there are any changes to days from our volunteers please let me know as soon as possible. Also if there are any people that would like to volunteer on a Tuesday or Wednesday, please come and see me in the canteen on a Monday or Friday. Please continue to remind your children to hand their lunch orders in by 9.15am. There are still quite a few children handing in late lunch orders, this is particularly difficult on Fridays with the large volume of orders we have. Your help with this would be much appreciated.

Calling all CEPS Dads DON'T MISS OUT! Last chance to buy your tickets for our biggest fundraiser to date. Lots of CEPS Dads going so buy your ticket today! This year our Men’s luncheon will be held on Friday 21st September at Charlestown Leagues Club. $110.00 a ticket or $1,000.00 a table. We are supporting Charlie's Run 4 Kids this year which I think we can all agree is a charity that touches all our hearts! Tickets are on sale from Charlestown Leagues Club or you can hand your money into the school office. If you can't make our event but could donate items or vouchers for our raffles, it would be much appreciated. Please contact me directly. Remember all money raised goes back to our school making it bigger and better for all our students to enjoy! We cannot do all these things without your support!

Our 5c and 10c fundraiser commences on Monday September 17 and runs until Thursday September 27. Remember to send in all your spare 5c and 10c pieces and they will be collected in a glass jar found in your child/rens classroom. The class that collects the most amount wins an ice-cream party.

Order forms for CEPS Thompsons Pie Drive will go home this week. It is a great way to stock up on quick and easy meals over the school holidays and is another great fundraiser for our school.

Last year your P&C added an exciting segment into the P&C meetings called "Teachers and The P&C" Each month we approached a different teacher on staff to give us an insight into their passions, interests, thoughts, ideas, visions and goals of what they would like to see happen in the school. In doing this we supported the teacher in achieving their different initiatives. Miss Harris wanted to update the representative sports singlets to fit all CEPS students of all different sizes. The P&C have donated $1,000.00 to help Miss Harris achieve this. I think you will all agree it’s great to see our kids in uniform when they are representing the school. We will hear from Mrs Highland next meeting, we will keep you updated with Mrs Highlands’ ideas. Work is hoping to be finished on our outdoor kitchen by the end of term. This will be a fully working kitchen with BBQ area and running water. We are looking forward to being able to use this area for our BBQ events and for CEPS students to use the produce from the community gardens to practice their cooking skills.

We are pleased to announce we now have REBEL sports store on board with our ongoing fundraisers. Please mention Charlestown East Public School with every purchase at REBEL for the school to receive cash back.

News from the Uniform Shop We are looking forward to our new Kinder students coming to school next year. If you have a child starting next year and would like to purchase their uniforms now, please fill in the uniform order form and we will deliver them to their sibling’s classroom to take home or you can collect them from the office. Uniforms are also for sale at the kindergarten orientations happening next term. Due to our suppliers increasing their costs there will be a slight increase in school uniforms starting Day 1 Term 4. If you need new summer uniforms or want to stock up on winter uniforms for next year please send your orders in now.

Remember, if your child has grown out of any logoed school uniforms and you would like to donate them to the 2nd hand uniform stock, they will go to great use. Please hand them into the school office. A 2nd hand uniform sale is held with the monthly CEPS mini markets. Please make sure you take a look as there are some really good quality uniforms being passed down. It is so nice to see so many CEPS students wearing their school uniform with such pride.

Thank you for supporting uniformity across our playground. Jody Pavlou
