To all Parents The School has received some feedback that the Father’s Day breakfast, for so long a positive event for student and families, was extremely disappointing this year. Unfortunately, the catering for this year’s event changed as the Hospitality Department, who have catered the function successfully for the past few years, are no longer able continue the catering role and the PFA have issues with providing resources. In order for the function to continue it was necessary for the School to employ an external contractor to prepare the food however they proved to be both inexperienced and under resourced resulting in a disappointing outcome for many. The School has decided to arrange for a complete refund to all families who paid for the event with the refund to be processed through Trybooking over the next week. I wish to emphasise the fact that the School is committed to running these events into the future and we will appoint more experienced caterers to ensure the functions are conducted to the level of quality you have come to expect. YEAR 10 PRESENTATION EVENING Thanks go to all of those involved in organising the Year 10 Presentation Evening last Friday night, in particular Mrs Cathy Perconte, Mrs Sarah McCleary, Mrs Nicole Garner and Mr Trent Oldaker. It was a pleasure to be able to see students conducting themselves in such a respectful and mature manner and celebrating their achievements over the last two years to obtain of their Leadership Certificate. Outstanding performances at these events were from Daniel Wilson 10D who was placed equal 4th out of 99 students in the Deakin University Maths Contest and Nicholas Archon 11C for once again successfully progressing through to the final of the PrintACar challenge. A full account follows later in the newsletter. SUMMER UNIFORM With the change in weather this week, it is a reminder that weather conditions can range in Spring from very cold to quite hot and humid. On days forecast to be 25 degrees or warmer students may choose to wear their summer uniform. Students may choose to wear their summer uniform continuously from the beginning of Term 4. Please check summer shirts and dresses for appropriate sizes remembering that dress lengths should be to the knee and the short sleeved shirts should be able to be tucked into school trousers and/or shorts. Shorts are to be worn with black school socks and be no longer than knee length. Boys wearing the “basketball” 3/4 length shorts will be asked to have them altered. Growth spurts throughout the winter months often occur. Please do not “leave it” until the last moment to check your child’s uniform. END OF TERM ARRANGEMENTS Friday September 16th is the last day of classes for students in Years Prep to 12 for Term 3. All students will be expected to attend normal classes on this day. The school day will finish at 2:15pm for Senior School and 2:05 for Junior School. School bus arrangements have been adjusted to suit the earlier finish time. START OF TERM FOUR Term 4 commences for students on Tuesday 4th October for all students. Week One of the Senior School timetable will operate for the commencement of Term Four. VCE UNIT 3 and 4 PRACTICE EXAMINATIONS AND TERM BREAK CLASSES Parents of students in Year 12 should have received a letter from Mrs Thornton outlining the end of year arrangements. A timetable of both practice examinations and the Term Break classes has been distributed to students and also included later in the newsletter. All students are expected to attend the practice examinations which commence with English on Friday 16th September. Students should take them seriously whilst not becoming overly anxious about them. Practice examinations are a valuable diagnostic tool to see what students already know well, and what needs to be a focus during the revision period. Practising working under the pressure of time and under the same conditions they will experience for their final examinations is invaluable. Term Break classes give students the opportunity to work with their teachers to gain the most from the revision period leading up to their examinations. A reminder that there will be no buses running on Monday 3rd October. Students attending can leave after their examination on this

HOOP TIME BASKETBALL Last Friday, it was our Year 5/6 (Senior) Hoop Time basketball teams who ventured to Eagle Stadium, Werribee to compete in our local Hoop Time Basketball competition. Hoop Time is a Basketball Victoria initiative and one of Victoria’s most prestigious Primary School basketball competitions. With some extremely talented basketball players within the Junior School, we fielded three teams. Our Boys, Girls and Mixed teams played against some very competitive opposition, and students acquitted themselves very well indeed. All three teams played fantastic basketball, and all made finals in their respective divisions. The boys were beaten in the semi‐final of the All Star Boys division, the girls made the Grand Final of the All Star Girls division, however were narrowly beaten and the mixed team successfully won the Grand Final of the Future Stars division. The Girls and Mixed teams will progress to the Regional Finals later in the year. Our Hoop Time teams are to be commended on their on‐court performances and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

SENIOR SCHOOL 3D PRINTACAR CHALLENGE NEWS
3D PrintACar Challenge – Qualifying Round The 3D PrintACar Challenge is a competition hosted by Quantum Victoria. Quantum Victoria, the centre for excellence and innovation in STEM, has grown the competition significantly over the past three years. The competition invites students from across Victoria to design, engineer and 3D print a CO2 drag racer.
The rules are simple, however, the design brief is detailed. The axles are the only non 3D printed component. Our two team entrants to this year’s competition were VCE Systems Engineering students Nicholas Archon and Jacob Sinclair along with Flight Technologies and Mechatronics students Stuart Campbell and Benjamin Eley.
Upon arrival at Quantum Victoria, the students submitted their 3D printed drag racers to scrutineering. Accompanying the cars was a poster to communicate the engineering and design process the students undertook. The teams have four runs on the 25 metre drag strip with race time dependent on the student’s reaction time to the start gate lights and the quality of their engineering and design.
The BMG teams posted the overall fastest two times for the day with their cars reaching speeds in the mid 70 Km/h range. Quantum kept the teams busy when not racing with media interviews and two coding challenges that had the students build a reaction time testing program and program a robot vehicle to navigate an obstacle course. All events being live streamed added an extra challenge to the competition as all were aware of the cameras following every move. At the conclusion of the day, both BMG teams had been successful in being selected to join the 16 team PrintACar challenge final to be hosted by La Trobe University Engineering on November 23rd. Congratulations to Nicholas Archon for successfully progressing through to the final for the third consecutive year.

On Monday the 22 August, nine students attended a training night at Werribee Secondary College, and last Monday night 3 Year 7 girls debated for the very first time, against Good News Lutheran School. The girls attended many training sessions in advance to prepare for the topic ‘That after‐school sports should NOT be compulsory,’ and managed to get some good rebuttal against their opponents. They won this debate.
The girls who participated were Maddy Chincarini, Sophie Wall and Mia White. Sophie was also Best Speaker for the debate. I would like to congratulate these students on their efforts and achievement.
