June 13, 2015 EPGA Meeting Minutes Attending: Paul and Robin Swanner, Staci McStotts, , Julie Davis, Ted Smith, Randi Lamb, Trevor Stewart (guest), Dori Lowell, Joyce Hubbard, Melissa Carden, Nancy and Kristy Shurvinton Meeting called to order by Julie No changes or additions for May Minutes Staci McStotts approved minutes Dori Lowell 2nd Approved Treasurer Report – We sold some ribbons to Cascade, do we have enough ribbons for our show? Old Business: Everything is good for the show – just need to find out about straw. 4-H bake sale is for Saturday only Amy Burt is the Chair Person for the October show New Business: Current meetings have been held under the assumption that we need 6 members and 2 officers attending meetings, but the bylaws do not state that. It states 3 officers are needed. In 1999 it had been changed to: at least 6 members in good standing and no meeting shall be valid without 3 elected officers present or represented. In order to change the bylaws the EPGA membership needs to be notified 20 days prior to the meeting. Members can be notified by the newsletter and facebook for the proposed changes. The last changes to the bylaws were in October 2007 changing the dues from January to December. Dori will write the changes from what they are now to what is being proposed. Dori will remove ‘represented’ from the bylaws so that 2 officers need to be present. Paul made the motion to change the bylaws from 3 elected officers to 2 officers to be present at each meeting and 5 members in good standing. Ted 2nd Approved The July 18th meeting has been changed to August 1st @ 6:00 social/7:00 Meeting at the Shurvinton residence. Voting for the bylaw changes can be done by the August 1st meeting.

A discussion was brought up about the survey sent out by Katie Ridley that is to be voted on at this year’s board meeting at convention. Topics discussed: changes in the caramel colors, random markings, showing animals with disqualifying faults, judge or a current member of the board of directors can proctor, alternate registration certificate for does stating that they are registered but their offspring will not be registered, show rules, NPGA shall not allow any name changes and or changes in the color patterns of a registered animal unless a mistake was made by office Staci would like to see a section in the show rules that explains what is required for a sanction show. It comes with the ribbons but the show rules have been edited and re-written many times over the years and need to be posted. If you would like that put on the next board meetings agenda let your director know. Dori asked Robin if she found the show results for March. She did not. Is it in the book? Is it in the box? Staci received the box but did not open it and gave it back to Colleen. Robin said that it is too late to enter the results. Staci said she would send in the results when they are found. Julie said Northwest Vets are joining with Chuckanut Vet for emergency calls. If you have a doe in labor you may have to travel farther the Chuckanut vets and they will not let you assist. Dori said she has heard good things about Pilchuck vets. They are getting back into goats so they are an option again. Julie is looking into hay from Mitchell Farms in Monroe - really nice, this year’s cut, orchard grass. If people are interested in a group buy it is $13.50 a bale. They are close to 90# bales. Contact Julie if you are interested. Staci wanted to know who has straw? Nathan should have some left. Staci also asked if anyone has any wethers for sale. Nobody does at this time. Joyce made the motion to adjourn the meeting Melissa 2nd Meeting adjourned Next Meeting: July – No Meeting August 1st @Shurvinton home 6:00 Social/ 7:00 Meeting September – October – November – December -

A Letter From Smucket Hi everybody, Guess what? We discovered a new treat, corn chips! Melanie had some extra and gave me one first but I wasn’t impressed. However, she gave some to the rest of the herd and they went nuts over them. I decided to give them another try and found them delicious. I understand that there are other kinds of chips made out of things like potatoes and even come in different flavors. And this couldn’t come at a better time because….Cast Party!! Melanie is inviting the cast of the present play for a cast party so we are in full party plannning mode. Birdie is tired of always doing the food because she’s “the girl” so Rebel will be in charge of the menu. Birdie will be the hostess and greeter. She will meet the guests and lead them to the deck where Rebel will have a variety of different types and flavors of chips…and peanuts. I will supervise with Renegade as my assistant. He will also be as he puts it, “the cute one”. The dogs Simon and Brodie will be excited but Trevor will role his eyes the whole time and continually ask, “Exactly how long will these people be staying??” And these people are actors!. It will be like dinner and a show! We are very excited! How about the June weather?? We stay in the garage most of the day when it’s hot. Melanie will come out and ask, “What aren’t you guys outside?” We answer, “Do you know how hot it is out there?? Well, we don’t either but it’s really hot.” She just wants us to go eat grass so that she doesn’t have to mow it. It is delicious grass and we eat as much as we can later in the evening. When it gets ahead of us she’ll bring out the mower thingy and we run out into the yard. “Eat fast! She’s going to cut it down!” The dogs love rolling in the grass and Rebel finds that very odd. He’ll watch the dogs rolling around, “I was going to eat that grass.” Well, everyone keep cool or dry depending on the weather, and as Melanie says, eat lots of grass. Good grazing. Smucket
