PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Academic Awards During the year our student have the opportunity to participate in the ICAS (International Competi- tions and Assessments for Schools) testing pro- gram that is run by the University of NSW. These assessments are quite difficult with some of the questions being really tricky for students. Our students who volunteered were presented with certificates for Mathematics at Monday’s assem- bly and all of our students who sat the test should be congratulated for their efforts, in par- ticular, I would like to congratulate Noah Hutchins (Year 5) and Rasna Preman (Year 6) who were both awarded distinctions. Noah scored in the top 2% of all students in Australia and Rasna in the top 3%. Kevin Binu (Year 5) was awarded a High Distinction and scored in the top 1% of all students in Australia; what a fantastic effort! Thanks to Mrs Wiseman also for doing all the organisation in facilitating this pro- gram for our students. Aerobics Success Congratulations to our two Aerobics teams who are taking part in the School Aerobics competi- tion last Saturday in Geelong. Our senior more experienced team came away with the gold med- al after performing an almost flawless routine. In effect this makes our girls State Champions. These girls have been working hard all year and under the guidance of Mel McGeoch and Bec Wilson they have attained the highest accolades. Our new team also performed remarkably well, considering they had been training for less than eight weeks to master their routine. This team places seventh in the same section. Well done girls, I know that both Mrs McGeogh and Mrs Wilson are looking forward to working with you in 2017 as you improve and perfect your routine. Halloween Disco The note for our Halloween Disco went out yes- terday and we would hope that most of our stu- dents will attend what should be a fun night. Students are encouraged to dress up in keeping with Halloween but if you don’t have anything suitable, it’s OK to just come in disco clothes and have a great time. The Junior Disco (Prep – Year 2) will be from 5:00pm – 6:00pm and the senior disco (Year 3 – Year 6) will be from 6:15 – 7:15pm. Tickets will be presold and are $5 each. FRANKSTON PRIMARY SCHOOL’S ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM-MOSAIC TOMATO POTS

Our ‘Smiley Hour’ Engagement Program continues to excite and motivate our students to try new things. We

were very lucky to have the support of Lynne and Leanne from Bunnings who helped our students design and

make their own Mosaic Tomato Pots. The children were very creative and enjoyed potting their tomato

seedlings into their mosaic pots……………...let’s hope they enjoy eating a tomato or two!!!!

HEAD LICE

We have had a few parents inform us that their children have been treated for head lice and we are reminding all parents to please ensure you check your

child’s hair regularly and treat if necessary. The school prefers all students with long hair to tie their hair back to reduce the risk of head lice. Unfortunately this is an ongoing issue in all schools and we are appealing to parents to be vigilant with regular hair inspections at

home in order to reduce the spread of head lice.

LOST PROPERTY We are currently getting an enormous amount of LOSTproperty handed in to the office. Due to the change in weather we have an excess numbers of jumpers and coats and many of them do not have names on them and therefore we are unable to return them to their rightful owners. We often have a large number of expensive toys, lunch boxes and drink bottles gathering at the office that no one seems to own!!!! If you could ensure that anything your child brings to school is clearly labelled so that we are able to quickly identify it if it is lost.

EMERGENCY CONTACT DETAILS We are urging all parents to ensure that they have updated the school office with any changes to emergency contact details as too often we are having difficulty contacting parents.

This would include: new mobile phone numbers

new landline numbers changes of address

Changes to any emergency contact person(s) As soon as parents inform the office that there has been a change to contact details these are immediately amended on our Department CASES system. Too often parents are failing to inform us of these changes and in the case of a sudden medical emergency this is very concerning. If you are unsure of whether or not you have informed us of any changes then please just contact the office and we will confirm the details we currently have on record.

We thank you for your support in this important matter.
