Bonded Brake Band Assemblies

We can manufacture brake bands complete to yourspecifications, prints or samples. We work with cast iron,ductile iron, rolled steel, and welded assemblies.

Relining & Remanufacturing

1. Inspection of Used Part

Wear on all surfaces and gearteeth are checked and inspected.Parts are checked for cracks andstructural integrity of part.

2. Removal of Old Lining

State of the art industrialdebonding ovens are utilizedto burn off used linings,adhesives, grease and oil. Fastand safe, your part is ready to becleaned and prepared forbonding.

3. Cleaning & Surface Preparation

Cleaning the surface of your part,which is one of the mostimportant steps to achieving ahigh quality bond, isaccomplished through mech-anically abrading and degreasingthe surface.

4. Bond New Lining

New friction material is coatedwith a thermal adhesive. Propercycle time, pressure andtemperature is applied tocomplete the bonding process.Midwest Brake® utilizes state ofthe art bonding presses and equipment to monitor thisprocess, which produces a high quality, consistent bond.

5. Machining

Midwest Brake® will machineclutch plates to an overallthickness upon request. Clutchplates are machined to +/- .002parallel allowing for better surfacecontact, thus increasing the lifeand performance of the clutch orbrake.

6. Inspection & Documentation

A strict quality control process isfollowed where every step isdocumented and checked duringthe processing of your part. Partsare given a final inspection,stamped, labeled and carefullypackaged for shipping.

Computer Controlled AutomationAll aspects of the bonding process are monitored andrecorded by a computer controlled interface that records thecycle time, temperature and pressure during the bondingcycle. By insuring that the adhesive is properly cured andset, we set the standard in the industry for quality andreliability.

CapacityOur equipment is state of the art and provides the ability tobond clutch plates up to 114” in diameter. With over 15 stateof the art presses and ovens, Midwest Brake canaccommodate all sizes of clutch plates and brake bandsquickly and easily.

Consistency Our quality control assures that the bond and frictionmaterial are manufactured to precise specifications 100% ofthe time. Riveted lining is attached only with the rivet and is thusa weak link.

Drilled holes through the lining weaken the structuralintegrity of the lining.

Riveted holes are counter sunk thus reduced surfacearea of friction material.

Black & Red

Black & Red, commonly knownas “B & R” in the industry, isdifferent from most frictionmaterials on the market today.The combination of “B & R”material fights surfacedeterioration and creates aconsistent friction for the life ofthe plate.

The Black Material is formulated for superior wearresistance. Our Red Material is compounded with specialresins and additives that allow the friction material toperform at a constant Coefficient Of Friction (COF)throughout the life of the clutch plate. The Red material actsas a scrubber block which cleans the wear surface whenused in combination with our Black Material.

Most industrial brake linings use a singlecomponent material where high wear, glazingof the mating surface and heat are oftencharacteristics of normal use. Dirt, grease,oil and other common contaminants inthe operational environment contribute toaccelerated surface deterioration byinhibiting the capability of the friction material todissipate heat.

Midwest Brake® B & R friction technology fights frictionsurface deterioration, glazing and premature wear.

Midwest Brake developed the cushioned style block to helpwith machines that develop a lot impact and shock duringengagement. By using a propriety cushion sandwichedbetween two molded blocks, the cushioned style block hasmore resistance to shearing and premature failure.
