Beginning French I
Les objectifs: Provide beginners with fundamental skills in listening,speaking, reading, and writing French. The course will also addressFrancophone culture. The course covers:
y Vocabulary buildingy
A dvanced verb tensesy Object pronounsy Functional language (travel, technology, history, art, personal
life, work, social problems)
Policies:
y Disruptive class behavior will be handled according to NECpolicies (i.e., Academic Catalogue, 73-75).
y A cademic dishonesty (e.g., cheating, plagiarism) will be handledaccording to NEC policies ( A cademic Catalogue, 75): "F" on thetest/assignment & reported to Registrar; possible course failureif the test/assignment is "of major significance in the totalcourse." ( A cademic Catalogue, 76). A second instance mayresult in expulsion. (Id.).

You will be tested each week on the prior chapter. Expect a midtermexam before mid-semester break and a final in December. A dditionalassignments, including special projects, essays, presentations, andreadings, will be announced and will count as part of the homework orexam grade. I will inform you about how these will apply.

We will discover grammar and vocabulary within specific situations -greetings, travel, medicine, etc.... This is often called "sheltered"language learning: language within a thematic shelter.
