Military Cards Community Service There is a group sending military care boxes for Easter and they are looking for letters to include in the boxes. If you would like to write a letter or card, drop it off to the Extension Office by Monday, March 8th and we will deliver

those to them.

All My Money Youth Class April 22nd Learn about your money personality, budgeting, and create spend, save,

Cloverbuds

Cloverbuds has a new Coordinator! Welcome Bobbi Hall! She will be e-mailing Cloverbud members with meeting information and asking for RSVPs to meetings for planning and splitting into groups.

The next Cloverbud Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, March 13th from 1pm – 3pm at the 4-H Building. Face Coverings are not required for Cloverbud age members, but are recommended. Face coverings are

required for parents and 4-H age members at Cloverbud meetings.

Rabbit RHVD2 Vaccine Clinic in April, RSVP by March. 5th

Fremont County 4-H will have a Vaccine Clinic for 4-H rabbits to protect them from contracting the RHVD2 Rabbit Virus. This is only open to 4-H members, not open to the public. The clinic will begin at 10 A.M. on April 10th at Royal Gorge Rodeo Grounds. Rain date will be April 17th. Vaccine will be administered by Dr. Sarah McGinness, DVM of Four Mile Veterinary Clinic. Rabbits will remain in YOUR vehicle and she will go to each vehicle. You should also remain in your vehicle. All rabbits must have a legible tattoo in the left ear. Cost per rabbit will be $10.00. If you have a thermometer, please bring it. There will be thermometers available for purchase at a cost of $5.00. Contact either Marie Adams at [email protected] or Laura Taylor at [email protected] to RSVP. RSVP Deadline is March 5th. Please RSVP with your first and last name, phone number, 4-H County, number of rabbits, and if you need to purchase a thermometer. Remember the 2021 Fremont County Fair Breeding/Show will be only for rabbits that have been vaccinated. Market rabbits will not need to be vaccination as the minimum age for them to be vaccinated is 12 weeks. You may use a vaccinated doe or buck as the parents of the Market Pen. The market rabbits will be a terminal show and rabbits will NOT be returned to exhibitor following the Market Livestock sale.

MQA Training Information

The in person MQA class originally scheduled in March has been canceled and MQA will be offered online again this year in March. More information will be shared when the state has updated the online option for the year. All livestock members will receive an e-mail with links to review material and take the tests.

Animal e-Record Book Dates for 2021

August 16 (Monday) – Livestock, Horse & Dog Record Books due in the Extension by 5:00 PM August 21 (Saturday) – e-Record Book Judging beginning at 8:00 AM

Big R Producing Partners

Big R is proud to support 4-H and FFA livestock exhibitors by providing gift cards to 4-H members who are enrolled in animal projects. The forms are available now for pick up from the cashier and can be submitted in early April.

Disposal of Manure at Pathfinder Park

An area (concrete blocks) has been erected on the northeast end of the parking lot to dispose of manure. Please dispose of ALL manure from the arena, parking lot, and surrounding area in this area at the completion of any event or activity. Your help in keeping the park clean is appreciated.

Reminder to Horse Project Members

The use of the Pathfinder Park Arena is by reservation only! You now have to schedule through the county. You need call HR at 276-7352. If a 4-H Club is using the arena, that does not mean it is open to everyone. Please respect and adhere to the rules for use of the arena. If you have people just coming in to ride when you are having your practice rides, report the incident to Jeramy as soon as possible.

Dog, Horse, and Cat Information Dog, Horse, and Cat ID forms are due by April 29, 2020, by 5:00 PM if brought into the Extension Office. All ID forms are due by 11:59 PM on May 1 if done on 4-HOnline. With the new 4-H Online 2.0 pictures, forms, and shot records (dog and cat only) did not roll over. We will need you to upload your pictures and records into 4-H Online or bring these into the office. If you have any questions call 276-7390 and Becky can help you. Remember do not confirm the animal because once that is done any corrections or updates can’t be made. Once the deadline has passed and we are sure there are no longer any updates then Becky will confirm the animal(s) for you.

Scrapie Tag for Sheep and Goats Be sure all female and intact males have their flock identification ear tags that list their flock or origin. If you have questions you can contact the Colorado Department of Agriculture, Animal Care Division at 303-239-4161. If you need a flock identification number and/or tags you can call APHIS Area Veterinary Services at 303-231-5385. For county fair information you can call and talk to Jeramy at 276-7390.

PIG INFORMATION FOR 2021 No Pig Weigh-In or Tag-In!

Again in 2021 we will NOT have either a pig weigh-in or tag-in. If you have pigs for the Fremont County Fair and/or Colorado State Fair you must come to the Extension Office after April 1 and get a nomination form for each pig. See directions below! If you have questions please call Jeramy.

Directions for Market Swine Identification Form For the 2021 Fremont County Fair

1. Come to Extension Office beginning April 1 and pick-up Fremont County Fair Market Swine

ID forms and ear tags.

2. Pick up a Colorado State Fair nomination form if wanting to nominate for CSF (one form is good for eight pigs). Pay applicable Fremont County fees ($5.00 per animal) for each CSF nomination. Nomination deadline for State Fair is May 5, 2021 for Fremont County.

3. It is your responsibility to ear tag and ear notch (if necessary) your pigs or get someone else to do it for you. We have ear taggers available in the Extension Office for loan if needed.

4. Ear Tag goes in the pig’s right ear.

5. Please fill out the attached Fremont County Fair Market Swine ID Form, for each pig, providing the following information:

a. Ear notches – County Fair pigs are NOT required to have ear notches, but if the pig has notches make sure that you have drawn them in correctly. If you are nominating the pig for CSF and have purchased an un-notched pig it MUST be notched.

b. Sex of the pig. c. Breed and /or Description of the pig. d. Breeder of the pig

6. Provide three (3) good quality photographs (no more than 3) of each pig (on a separate

sheet of paper) including: a. Front View (see example – page with form. b. View of right side (see example – page with form. c. View of left side (see example – page with form. d. We MUST be able to read the ear tag number in at least one of these photographs. e. Digital photographs are preferred and photographs MUST be in COLOR.

Photographs will be used to identify your pig so they must be of good quality. f. All three (3) photographs (no more than 3) should be on one page. g. Examples of photos and how they should look are in paperwork.

7. All animals that come to the Fremont County Fair will be matched to the nomination

information before county fair weigh-in.

Important It is the responsibility of the 4-H members to make sure the Fremont County Fair Market Swine ID forms are properly filled out and correct when they are turned in to the Extension Office. Animals that cannot be matched to their nomination information will not be allowed to show/sell at the Fremont County Fair or the Colorado State Fair. Deadline: All completed forms (Fremont County and Colorado State Fair) and photographs MUST be turned in to the Fremont County Extension office before 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2021. Any forms brought in after this date and time will NOT be accepted. Swine ID forms will NOT be accepted at Sheep and Goat Weigh Day. NO EXCEPTIONS!

Colorado Location ID (LID) Requirements for Animals

The Fremont County Fair Board REQUIRES all Livestock, Goats, Sheep, Swine, Cattle, Poultry, Rabbits, and Horses to have either a valid Premises ID # or Location ID # to ENTER the Fremont County Fair. ID Numbers MUST be on file in the Extension Office BEFORE your County Fair entry will be accepted. Please check with Becky to make sure we have your number. If you move your animal projects to a new location, you will need to get a new Location ID # for the physical address where the animals are kept.

Location Numbers can be obtained by either going to: https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/aganimals/ colorado-location-identification-lid-registration-premises and filling out a request or calling (303) 869-9130.

County Fair Livestock Sale Commission

Reminder, all animals that go through the Fremont County Livestock Sale are charged a 5% commission by the Sale Committee. The 5% commission will be automatically deducted from your sale check and you will need to put the 5% amount in your e-Record Book under Other Expenses. Example: If your animal sells for $1,000 the 5% commission would be $50.00. You will receive a sale check for $950. You will list the $50 under Other Expenses and $950 under income. If you have questions please call the extension office or talk to a sale committee member.

I M P O R T A N T N O T I C E! Animal Care and Housing Forms

ALL 4-H/FFA members with animal projects are REQUIRED to fill out an Animal Care Housing Form (attached to 4-H enrollment form) or through 4HOnline. This form must be filled out and on file in the Extension Office for a 4-H/FFA member to be enrolled in an animal project. Must also include your Premises/Location ID number.

Cake Decorating Classes

Cake Decorating classes will be on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month starting on March 1st. Classes will run through July. They will be held from 5:00 PM – 6:15 and 6:30 - 7:45 PM at the 4-H Building. Sign up for class sessions is required. We ask that only 1 parent per 4-H’er stay during class. If you have any questions you may call Val Berry at 269-6689.

Leather Craft Classes Butch, the leather leader, will be starting leather classes over zoom in February and these will be held twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday nights of the month. Zoom links were sent out to leather project members. If you did not receive the links, plesae contact the office. Classes will move to face to face in April. Before the class you need to:

• Make sure you have purchased a leather kit ($50) from the Extension Office (It has the tools you need to get started)

• Purchased and picked up your 4-H Leather Project Book • Picked up a bag of free practice leather from the Extension Office • Checked out a piece of marble form the office to stamp on • Make sure you have zoom on your phone or computer with video capabilities

Dog Training

4-H Dog Training will be every Wednesday night at the

4-H Building and move outside in April when weather permits. First year dog members meet at 6:00 PM and second year and up meet at 7:00 PM. If you have any questions on dogs you may

contact our leader, Margie McNew at 458-5762.
