IntroductionCourse Description
The Kiswahili course is designed to prepare students for Study abroad opportunities, not necessarily as communications consultants but as an intensive academic and intercultural experience.

Course Description
Proficiency will be a primary objective in this course. This will be achieved through direct, immersive everyday collaboration in class and during the language lab sessions.
A central focus of the course will utilize Swahili pedagogical discourses and second language acquisition.

Course FormatThe format of the course:A combination of class and lab
sessions, experiential activities and events, lectures, discussions, small group and individual activities, role playing, audio visual presentations and use of digital technologies, the internet and Swahili music to enhance and accelerate Swahili learning.

Course Objectives
The focus will be on hearing before understanding; speaking before writing and reading. After completing the course satisfactorily a student will have no problem in day to day simple conversations

Assessment
Students will be assessed on their ability to use Kiswahili for example:
Can the student repeat prescribed dialogue accurately?
Can the student converse at a normal rate of speed without hesitation?
Can the student describe daily events or personal experiences in short written composition and oral performance and read basic texts on familiar topics such as origins, trade, food, family, pets

The fundamentals of Swahili through listening, speaking, reading and writing to learn Vowels, Consonants, Basic vocabulary, Simple sentences, Greetings, Introductions and Simple conversations
Practice in pronunciation and development of comprehension.
Practice in pronunciation and development of speech
A thorough review of grammar and vocabulary building
