Fred  This relatively simple baby blanket is a quick knit in chunky yarn, with a border in a contrasting color. It is knit in two steps. The main body is  worked by alternating sections of seed stitch and a lacy zigzag pattern.  After the main body is finished, stitches around it are picked up to complete the lacy border. The zigzag motif of the main body is repeated in the border pattern.

Materials:

363 yards of chunky yarn in the main color

121 yards of chunky yarn in the border color

 Yarn used: Classic Chunky Heathers Superwash by Ella Rae in blue (3 skeins) and grey (1

skein)

US 10, 60-inch circular needles

Stitch markers (optional)

Blocking wires, pins

Size and Gauge:

13 sts and 17 rows = 4 inch square in the pattern of the main body 

 The finished blanket measures approximately 24 x 37 inchesGauge is given only for rough orientation. A different gauge will simply result in a slightly 

different size of the blanket.

 Abbreviations:

k – knit k2tog – knit 2 stitches together

p – purl sl 1 – slip 1 stitch knitwiseyo - yarn over psso – pass slipped stitch over

ssk – slip, slip, knit

CO – cast on BO – bind off

Main body:

CO 67 sts

Seed stitch: 

Row 1: k, p to end

Row 2: k, p to end

Repeat these two rows 3 times.

8 rows altogether.

Zigzag lace:

 All even rows are purled

Row 9: k1, *k 1, yo, ssk, k 3, k2tog, yo*, rep ** 7 times, k 2

Row 11: k 1, * k 2, yo, ssk, k 1, k2tog, yo, k1*, rep ** 7 times, k 2

Row 13: k 1, * k 3, yo, sl 1, k2tog, psso, yo, k2*, rep ** 7 times, k 2

Repeat both sections 9 more times. Knit the seed stitch section one additional time. 148rows altogether.

Lace border:

 With 67 live sts on the needles, facing the right side, break yarn and join in the new color.

K 67 sts, marking the first and the last stitch as corner stitches. Pick up 113 sts along the

left side (length) of the main body. Pick up 67 sts along the bottom (width) of the main

body, marking the first and the last stitch as corner stitches. Pick up 113 sts along theright side (length) of the body. 360 sts.

 Weave in ends. Soak the blanket in lukewarm water, rinse and wrap in a towel to press out water. Lay flat and stretch into shape. Run blocking wires through the eyelets (yo, sl 1,

k2tog, psso, yo and corner eyelets) and pin. Let the blanket dry thoroughly.
