Welcome back and I trust that you have had an enjoyable break over summer. A special welcome to those joining the Frayne community this year. I am delighted that you are part of our amazing learning and faith sharing community, centred in Christ and trust that your associa on with the College will be produc ve and posi ve, with an emphasis on the partnership between home and school. Thank you to parents/guardians for your support with the start of the school year. We know that it is a busy (and expensive) me for you as you organise books, equipment and uniforms, and once again establish the rou nes and pa erns that support effec ve learning, both at school and at home. 2019 YEAR 12 RESULTS

Ursula Frayne Catholic College con nues to provide an effec ve learning environment and celebrate the achievements of every student. The College is very proud of the successes of the Class of 2019 in both the ATAR and ASPIRE pathways. Our median Australian Ter ary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 88.90 was above the State median of 81.00 resul ng in Ursula Frayne Catholic College being ranked 9 against 189 secondary schools in Western Australia.

82 students from Year 11‐12 at Ursula Frayne who undertook a VET program achieved a Cer ficate III or higher. Overall, the Year 12 results for 2019 were outstanding with 100% of our eligible Year 12 students fulfilling the requirements for the more rigorous Western Australian Cer ficate of Secondary Educa on (WACE). No sta s cal difference was noted for UFCC data in regard to the performance of each gender. Our congratula ons are extended to the students and staff who have worked hard to maintain such high standards. The a ainment of consistently high levels of learning across the College is testament to the outstanding professionalism and commitment of the College staff, the posi ve a tude and preparedness of students to work smart and hard and the high levels of posi ve engagement and support afforded by families. The State Administra ve Tribunal has handed down its decision in rela on to our applica on to use 28 & 30 Teague Street for passive ac vi es by students under staff supervision. Regre ably, I inform our community that the applica on for review has been refused on the basis that the likely noise impact on neighbour‐ing dwellings would impinge upon their amenity and, as such, should not be supported. The College Board respects the decision and will not appeal the outcome. However, further considera on will be given to other possibili es arising out of this judgement. Thank you to those within and beyond the College community who have given their support to the process thus far. GENERAL EXPECTATIONS

It is important to reflect occasionally on some reasonable expecta ons for students at Ursula Frayne Catholic College and I encourage you to review and discuss the following expecta ons with your son/daughter. The fact that these items are recorded does not imply that all students need a reminder on each point. Most students are to be commended for their posi ve and responsible a tude and ac ons. How‐ever, there is value in all students clearly hearing the College’s expecta ons. Where these may be challenging, students are urged to respond posi vely, and with maturity, for the sake of their own personal development and for the common good.

A endance

As we are well aware, all children enrolled in an educa onal se ng are expected to a end on a regular basis. It is the responsibility of a par‐ent or guardian to support the development of regular pa erns of school a endance. This can be achieved by ensuring that children are in College for all school days and arrive on me every day. Every day counts! College staff and parents/guardians need to work together to support student a endance at school. The College monitors and follows up a endance and ensures that quality teaching‐learning opportuni es are available for all students. It is therefore very important that each parent or guardian: applies to the Principal, in wri ng, at least four (4) weeks prior seeking approval for a student to be away from school for an extended

period of me (generally three or more days) during a school term; provides the school with an explana on if their child is away; contacts the school if they are having difficulty ge ng their child to school; where possible arranges doctor and den st appointments out of school hours; and does not allow their child to stay at home for minor reasons. Responsibility For Study, Learning and Achievement

As in all endeavours, the staff of the College strive to provide students with the best service and commitment. They endeavour to encourage, to support and to provide worthwhile opportuni es for effec ve learning and development. Beyond the obliga on, the duty and the commitment of staff, there are fundamental and equally important issues for students: STUDENTS have a personal responsibility for their own study and learning. STUDENTS (through an open and posi ve a tude – embracing listening and respect for teachers and fellow students) are jointly responsible for their results, their learning and their happiness. STUDENTS have a personal responsibility to ensure that all assigned homework and assessment tasks are completed to the highest possible standard and punctually submi ed. WE ALL have a community responsibility to help one another, and to allow others to learn and develop.

Road Safety

The safety of our children is a community responsibility. As such, I extend a reminder to be careful and considerate of others when driving, parking or picking up students, par cularly during the busy before and a er‐school peak periods at the end of the day. These mes, in par cular, are never mes for speeding, ina en on or non‐adherence to traffic and parking regula ons as it risks somebody, especially children, being severely injured or killed – something we never want to happen. A reminder that on the Duncan Campus, students are not to be dropped off or picked up from the front car park. All members of our community are responsible for the safety and welfare of others. As such, motorists are asked to BE PATIENT, BE OBSERVANT and BE RESPECTFUL so as to model appropriate driver behaviour for our children – the motorists of the future! Please exercise courtesy towards our neighbours in the streets bordering our campuses by not parking on verges or in/across driveways.

CONCLUSION

All signs point to another incredible and produc ve school year. I know you will con nue to work with us, so your child can grow in confi‐dence, a love of learning, and a determina on to be the best person they can be. I look forward to working collabora vely with you to encourage and support your son/daughter to be the best person that they can be and to this end I remind all students to make a solid start to the year. As our learning and faith sharing community, centred in Christ embarks on the 2020 academic year we need to remind ourselves that each of us has a personal responsibility for making Ursula Frayne Catholic College a happy and safe place in which to learn. Chaplain’s Reflection

GOD’S HANDS

Welcome to the new School Year 2020! Last year was very successful and great things were accomplished. This year is not going to be any different, great individual and collec ve results are expected from us. Even Christ set a high mark when He said: “You are the light of the world”. "Your light must shine for all to see". This can sound very demanding; too much for us, but we need to understand what Christ is asking. We do not have to produce our own light, since Christ has said: “I am the light of the world”, iden fying himself with the light. We are called to transmit the light of Christ to others, each one of us in the unique way that we are. Firstly, you will learn many new things this year: Maths, Science, Italian, Music and many other subjects. Imagine how many things will enter your brain by the end of the year. I hope your head grows a lot, but without making you too top heavy! Learning and reaching excellence in all you do is a very important part of the school but not the only one. You need to bring your books and dress in your uniforms. Furthermore, St Paul says, “clothed in sincere compassion, in kindness and humility, gentleness and pa ence. Over all these clothes, to keep them together and complete them, put on love”. All these things need to enter in your heart. The heart is a very important part and the school wants your heart to grow very big this year with compassion, love, mercy and hospitality. If the brain can contain so much knowledge so too can your heart have an unlimited capacity. Head, heart and God’s hands. We need to learn to choose what is right, with respect and jus ce. Choose to forgive each other when a quarrel begins since Christ has done this with us in his death and resurrec on. Lend a hand when you can and this will help to make our College a be er place. Every Chris an aims to love God and neighbour with all our minds, our hearts and our wills and to unite them to the mind, heart and will of God. A reminder that all students should only be in their Sport uniform for 1 full day each week: Year 7’s Friday Year 8’s Monday Year 9’s Wednesday Year 10’s Thursday Years 11/12 Tuesday All other classes, including PE elec ves, Dance, Drama and training etc, will require students to get changed before and a er their classes. Year 12 Results - Class of 2019 The College is very proud of the achievements of the Class of 2019 in the Western Australian Cer ficate of Educa on (WACE) examina ons. Congratula ons to the students and staff who have worked hard to maintain such high standards. Results Overview

100% of our Year 12 students achieved the Western Australian Cer ficate of Educa on (WACE). Of the students eligible to obtain an ATAR:

15 (17%) students achieved an ATAR greater 95 39 (44%) students achieved an ATAR greater 90 53 (60%) students achieved an ATAR greater 85 63 (71.5%) students achieved an ATAR greater 80 Our median Australian Ter ary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 88.90 was above the State median of 81.00. Based on the median ATAR score for all students who enrolled in four or more ATAR courses, Ursula Frayne ranked 9th in the State. It was also the highest performing Catholic school in the ATAR category. The College has been ranked in the Top 50 secondary schools in Western Australia for the last 11 years. In 2019 the College was measured against 189 schools. We were recognised as a high‐performing school (Top 15%) in English, Modern History, Human Biology, Religion & Life, Geography, Visual Arts and AIT. Our English results were the highest median ATAR for all Catholic schools. 73% of students have been offered their first preference at University this year. Through our ASPIRE Voca onal Educa on and Training program, numerous students successfully transi oned into TAFE or university. Every student who undertook a Cer ficate IV program was offered a university placement. For students from Year 12 who undertook a VET program:

An ATAR of 99.00 indicates the student has performed in the Top 1% of the State. Maths Help Students on the Duncan Street Campus who are needing addi onal help in the area of Mathema cs are welcome to a end Maths Help. It will run each Wednesday from 3.30pm–4.15pm in Room G04. The first session is on 19 February (Week 3). Students who are interested in support of an outside tutor can speak to their classroom teacher who will have the contact details of a number of tutors – past students or qualified teachers. Those wishing to receive tui on through an outside tutor in the College Library must first contact Mrs Mandy Williams ([email protected]) asking for permission to do so. All external tutors working with students in the Library are required to apply to Mr Mills, enclosing a current Working with Children Check. Health Care Card Tuition & Building Levy Discount Scheme Eligible cards for the Health Care Card (HCC) Tui on Fee Discount Scheme provide an automa c discount on the Tui on Fees and Building Levy to holders of a means tested family Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card. Further informa on can be obtained from the Catholic Educa on website: www.cewa.edu.au or calling 6380 5200. Discounted tui on fee for 2020 is: $300 pa for Primary students (Kindy‐Year 6) $1500 pa for Secondary students (Years 7‐12) The State Government Educa onal Program Allowance (EPA, currently $235), which is part of the Secondary Assistance Scheme, is paid to schools. In effect the fee for eligible Secondary students (Years 7‐12) will be $1,735, less the $235 EPA, leaving eligible parents to pay $1,500. The discounted tui on fee does not cover addi onal charges such as camps, Resources levies and subject levies. For holders of other types of Pensioner Concession Cards, including students, the College’s 15% discount on tui on fees s ll applies as per previous years. To access the Health Care Card Tui on Fee Discount Scheme, Secondary Assistance Scheme or the College’s 15% discount for other Pensioner Concession Card holders, parents/guardians will need to show a valid Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card and complete forms at either campus. Secondary Assistance Scheme forms are available at the Duncan Street Campus only. Concession Card discounts are not on going and need to be applied for each year. Cards that expire mid‐year also need to be updated or the discount will only apply un l the expiry date on the card. The cut off date to apply is Friday 9 April 2020.
