Frankston has long been Melbourne’s favourite family playground, offering the best beaches, beautiful parks and gardens, and endless opportunities for having fun.

It’s also the perfect base for exploring the Mornington Peninsula. Getting here is a breeze; Frankston is less than one hour’s drive from Melbourne and with a major rail link and three freeways on offer.

With over 500 parks and reserves, Frankston boats a myriad of walking paths, bike tracks, tranquil creeks, bushland flora and fauna reserves and wetlands of international significance.

Stunning sunsets over Frankston’s Waterfront can be enjoyed whilst dining at beachside restaurants.

Trains and BusesLocated in the heart of Frankston is the Frankston Transit Exchange, where the trains connect with the bus network. Trains depart towards Melbourne city every 10 to 20 minutes. The Stony Point line also links to Frankston, running a number of times a day. An extensive public bus network operates throughout Frankston including services to the Mornington Peninsula.

On Foot or BikeVisit staff at the Frankston Visitor Information Centre for maps and insider knowledge of the best paths to explore first. It is an easy stroll from the Frankston city centre following the blue colour-coded way finding signs.

CarsBring your own or hire a car to travel around the city and surrounding region at your own pace. Most major car-hire businesses are located in the city. Taxis are also readily available. Travel from Melbourne via EastLink road for easy driving, or meander along Nepean Highway.

FerriesConnecting the Bellarine and Great Ocean Road to the Mornington Peninsula, the 40-minute ferry crossing from Queenscliff to Sorrento saves you time and kilometres. Whether you travel as a foot passenger or with your car, there is much to see, perhaps even a dolphin or two.

Inter Island Ferries connect from Stony Point to French Island and Phillip Island (Cowes) across Western Port Bay. Take your bike or just travel by foot and take a tour from the other side.

AirportMelbourne’s Tullamarine Airport is Melbourne’s international and domestic terminal and is approximately 25 kms northwest of Melbourne CBD. There is a range of transport options available from the airport including bus, taxi or rental car.

We love to celebrate our community pride and ‘life in the city’.

Over 70,000 people attend our major events and festivals each year and rave about our family friendly atmosphere and unique community activities.

We’re the first to welcome in the festive season with our annual Frankston Christmas Festival of Lights. Over 25,000 people attend to see the spectacular fireworks display and the lighting of the 100 year old Norfolk Pine tree.

From Boxing Day through to Anzac Day the Frankston Waterfront is transformed as 3,500 tonnes of sand is meticulously carved into spectacular sculptures for Sand Sculpting Australia’s annual exhibition.

Frankston’s Waterfront Festival celebrates our stunning beachfront location. For one weekend in January patrons enjoy the food and wine garden, ‘come-and-try’ activities, beach front sports, entertainment on the main stage and fireworks.

Monash University Peninsula CampusWith a different theme each year – Sand Sculpting Australia offers visitors of all ages a wonderful experience to view 3,500 tonnes of sand that has been transformed by over 21 Australian and International sand sculptors into intricately carved sand sculptures that tower upwards of 18 metres.

Integrated with the sand sculptures are children’s activities including sand sculpting workshops, sand art, sand bottles, sand diggers and our NEW giant sand pit and games arcade. Plus on weekends and school holidays there are roving are entertainers, children’s shows, face painting and ‘Speed Carving’.
