Project 4 : Service Management System (SMS).

Company : Samsung ElectronicsLocation : Dallas, TXDuration : September 2000 to April 2002Scope & Description : The SMS is a part of the Samsungs Intelligent Network

(IN) architecture for telecom infrastructure. Its functionalitiesinclude primarily to receive service and data packages andcomponents from the Service Creation Environment (SCE) ; toconfigure the Network Elements (NEs); to deploy & removeservices , load & unload , activate & deactivate services in theNEs. SMS also is responsible for provisioning the various datacategories related to Services, Subscribers, Subscriptions &

Service Providers.Role & Contribution: I was involved in the high-level design for the Graphical UserInterface (GUI) for the SMS. It involved the use of RationalRose UML object oriented design tool. This GUI was madecompletely data driven and capable of being dynamicallygenerated from XML and other proprietary data. Theimplementation was done using C++ and Java with CORBA.

Project 3 : Bearer Independent Call Control Protocol (ITU-T Q.1901)Company : Samsung ElectronicsLocation : Bangalore, India.Duration : March 2000 to July 2000. (five months)Description :The BICC Protocol is to be used for call setup an release

procedures for the Network-Network Interface (NNI) for theNetwork elements in Samsung's 3rd generation UMTSSwitching System.

Contribution : I was primarily involved in the high-level design for the BICCprotocol. It involved the use of Rational Rose UML objectoriented design tool for making the class diagrams, sequencediagrams which went into the design of the protocol finite statemachine.

Project 2 :Samsung CDMA 2000 Switching SoftwareCompany : Samsung Electronics Corporations.Location : Seoul, South Korea.Duration : August 1999 to February 2000 (7 months) projectDescription : The cdma2000 ATM access Network provides dos

control, voice and packet data, and management trafficbetween the cdma200 systems comprising the BTS (BasestationTransceiver System), BSC (Base StationController) and the GAN (Global ATM Network). The BTS( Basestation Transceiver System) is the ATM CellBus

architecture and it has 600Mbps switching capacity. The BSC is the ATM Switch Fabric architecture and it has2.5Gbps switching capacity.

Contribution :a) During the first phase of the project, I was involved in theprocess of Detailed Design of the SVCM moduleimplementation of software prototype in C on PSOS Real TimeOperating System and IPC software developed for real-timesystems over Sun Solaris. The prototype SVCM wasintegrated with the UNI4.0 signaling stack provided byTrillium.b) During the next phase of the project, I developed the full

commercial version of the SVCM software, including the ATMdevice driver settings for the UPC, RT & MUX ATM devicesfor transmission of user ATM cells. Also block testing wasdone for the SVCM on a variety of target switchconfigurations.c) The final phase of the project included, System Integrationwith other modules and integration testing, performancetesting, aging tests , reliability & fault tolerance tests etc .

Project 1 :Samsung Next Generation Networking System (NGNS) OAM&P .Company : Samsung India Software OperationsLocation : Bangalore, India.Duration : August 1998 to July 1999Description :The NGNS system architecture is based on the Intelligent networks

concepts where the intelligence for processing various servicerequests are moved away from the switch known as the TransportPlatform (TP), and are located in Managed the Intelligent Platform(MIP) consisting of many Managed Intelligent Nodes (MINs). TheOAM&P software manages and configures the NGNS system both theMINs and the TP.

Contribution : Implemented the OMAP User Interface (both CLI and GUI).The UI was developed to incorporate the run-time extensibility of the3rd Generation switching software wherein commands could bedynamically created at the SCE and provisioned via the SMF. TheCLI i.e., the Command Line Interface was developed in C++. TheGraphical User Interface was developed using C++ and Java usingCORBA as the Communication pipeline.
