FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT February 18, 2018 Pastor’s Letter for the First Sunday in Lent B February 17/18 Readings: Genesis 9:8-15 Psalm 25:4-5, 6-7, 8-9. 1 Peter 3:18-22 Mark 1:12-15 Lent is well underway! This Sunday, the Catechumens and Candidates for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) will be received and sent to the Rite of Election with Archbishop Aymond at the Cathedral. There they will officially be declared the Elect of the Church, and they will be in their final weeks of preparation for the reception of the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil, on Holy Saturday night. As a community enter into the season with them, in our commitment to journey with Jesus, to make his ministry our own, to prepare as he did in the wilderness, to make our way toward Easter and the annual commemoration of our redemption by Jesus’ paschal sacrifice. He is truly the Lamb who takes away our sin, the innocent one who bore the sins of the world upon his back. He is the Morning Star, who came back from the dead, to bring us hope and the assurance of life eternal! A blessed and happy Lent to all! Please remember that there will be numerous services during the Lenten season to grow in our faith. You are always welcome! Have a great week! ~Fr. Buddy ~Fr. Buddy ~Fr. Buddy ~Fr. Catholic Charities Collection

The second collection at all Masses on Feb. 17 & 18 will be taken up for Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans. This second collection provides crucial funds that enable Catholic Charities to be a source of hope and help for the poor and needy in our archdiocese.

Donations through this collection enable Catholic Charities to help over 82,000 individuals and families each year. Vulnerable children, struggling families an frail seniors receive basic nutrition, essential health care, education, and case management services. The homeless and unemployed are connected to resources for shelter, care, and employment. Your support also provides emergency relief during times of unforeseen disaster.

We hope that you are growing accustomed to our new hymnal, Glory and Praise. We are inviting you to purchase a dedicatory plate to be placed in the front of each hymnal. They may be dedicated to a loved ones’ memory or honor, thus allowing your loved ones’ name memory to be visible for future generations to see and cherish. You may purchase these after Mass, by seeing Phillip in the lobby of the church, or by contacting him at the Church Rectory.
