Fourways High School
Welcome Back!! A warm welcome to our parents and students, may you have a superb year. A special welcome to our grade eights and new students who have joined us this year.
This year will be a year of setting and reaching attainable goals, working harder and smarter and taking our school to the next level. As a staff, we are here to support all of you, please remember we cannot do this without the support of our parents. We look forward to working with you, our parents and pupils, to ensure that our students are successful. We need to work as a team to prepare our “young legends” for the real world so that they become productive citizens. Students are expected to wear their uniform with pride, attend school every day, be on time, do their homework and get involved the extracurricular programme. I look forward to working with all of you.
Remember, SUCCESS IS NOT AN OPTION…. BUT AN EXPECTATION! Yours truly
Gwendolyne de Bruyn

CRICKET
1st XI Cricket plays International touring team
The pride of Fourways took on Hellenic Academy, an
international touring team from Zimbabwe on the 21st of
January. The day started in good spirit with the boys mixing
well and introducing themselves to each other, a rare
occurrence in this competitive world we live in today.
Fourways won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a
competitive 279/9 in 50 overs. The majority of the runs were
scored by captain Nicolas Mitchelmore (66) and contributions
were made by Brendan Maidment (44) and Maurice
Ramarumo (44 not out). The Fourways 1st XI set about their
task of defending their total with aplomb, with Kyle Dornan
taking a wicket on the first ball of the innings. Maurice
Ramarumo (3 for 16 in 6) and Callem Hume (3 for 24 in 5)
were Hellenic Academy’s main tormentors. Fourways
managed to bowl Hellenic out for 130 runs thereby winning
the match by 149 runs.
Fourways 1st XI Coke T20
In another accomplishment for Fourways
cricket, the 1st XI progressed to the last 16 of
the Coke T20 competition. The tournament is
the biggest school boy tournament in the
country and Fourways’ progression puts
them in the top 16 cricket teams in the
province. This includes the likes of St
Stithians, St Davids and KES to name but a
few. Unfortunately the knockout game
against St Stithians proved a hurdle too far
and Fourways was defeated by 9 wickets.
U14A capping ceremony
Eleven excited young U14 cricketers were introduced to one
of the many traditions that Fourways has, the pride in our
baggy cricket caps. In any cricket culture the team baggy
represents the team ethos and is the identifying marker of the
team. 1st XI players have to earn their red caps. The 1st XI
players, led by some inspirational words from captain Nicolas
Mitchelmore, handed each new U14A player his cap before
they represented the school in their very 1st match. The U14A
team played against Jeppe U14B team and in a nail biting
finish Fourways managed to beat Jeppe by 3 runs. The top
U14 performers were Ethan Pearsall with 22 runs and Luke
Renton with bowling figures of 2 for 7 in 4 overs.
