Fourth Sunday of Lent (Cycle C) A Sunday Reflection

This parable of the “prodigal son”— or rather, the “generous father”—

has inspired many famous works of art and is one that speaks to our

hearts very directly. Who among us does not long to be received and

forgiven like the prodigal one?

But there is yet another dimension to the parable in the person of the

brother. He seems envious and conceited, seeking recognition for staying

with the father while giving the impression that he has done so not out of

love, but for his own benefit.

There is a little of both brothers in each one of us. Sometimes we

squander God’s precious gifts and grow apart from him to go do our own

will. Other times we stay close, perhaps out of fear or a sense of guilt or

self-interest, but not out of love. In both cases, our merciful Father calls

us to repentance, for “everything I have is yours” (Lk 15:31). He awaits us

with open arms to forgive us. Don’t keep Him waiting! God bless you!

Cuarto Domingo de Cuaresma (Ciclo C) Reflexión Dominical

Esta parábola del “hijo pródigo”— o más bien, del “padre generoso”—

ha inspirado grandes obras de arte, y es una que nos habla directamente

al corazón. ¿Quién de nosotros no ansía ser recibido y perdonado como

lo fue el pródigo?

Pero la parábola tiene aún otra dimensión en la persona del otro

hermano. Parece engreído y envidioso, buscando reconocimiento por

quedarse junto a su padre, al mismo tiempo que nos deja la impresión de

que no lo ha hecho por amor sino buscando su propio beneficio.

Hay un poco de cada uno de los dos hermanos en cada uno de

nosotros. A veces derrochamos los dones de Dios y nos alejamos de Él

para hacer nuestra propia voluntad. Otras nos quedamos, quizás por

miedo, por sentido de culpabilidad, por interés…, pero no por amor. En

ambos casos, el Padre misericordioso nos llama al arrepentimiento,

porque “todo lo que tengo es tuyo” (Lc 15,31). Nos espera con los brazos

abiertos para perdonarnos. ¡No lo dejemos esperando! Que Dios los

bendiga.

The Father’s Embrace

Love Himself is at the crossroads to wrap us in His embrace

and to restore in us all that is broken. The only thing we must

do is to get up and have the desire to return to our own home,

Love’s home, leaving behind that fear that causes us to go

through life lost and wandering.

Pope Francis exhorts us “Let us not allow this season of

grace to pass in vain! Let us ask God to help us set out on a

path of true conversion” that becomes real when we share our

life with our brothers and sisters, placing our time, our talent

and our money at their service, so that others may also restore

their dignity as God’s children.

El abrazo del Padre

En un cruce de caminos está esperándonos el Amor mismo

para volver a abrazarnos y a restaurar en nosotros todo

aquello que está roto, lo único que debemos hacer es

levantarnos y tener ganas de regresar a nuestra propia

casa, la casa del amor, abandonando el temor que nos causa

el seguir perdidos y errantes por el mundo.

Francisco nos exhorta a que “no dejemos transcurrir en

vano este tiempo favorable. Pidamos a Dios que nos ayude a

emprender un camino de verdadera conversión” que se hace

realidad al compartir nuestra vida toda con nuestros

hermanos, poniendo al servicio nuestro tiempo, nuestro

talento y nuestro dinero para que otros puedan también

restaurar su dignidad de hijos de Dios.

This Lent take part in the 40 Mass challenge! Make your journey to Easter more fruitful by attending daily Mass. A Holy Hour of Adoration follows the morning Mass on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with all-day Adoration Thursday in the chapel. Esta Cuaresma participe en el desafío de las 40 misas. Haga que su camino a la Pascua dé más fruto asistiendo a la misa diaria. Una Hora Santa de Adoración sigue a la misa de la mañana los lunes, martes y miércoles en la iglesia; y adoración todo el día los jueves en la capilla.

Stations of the Cross will be prayed on the Fridays of Lent after the 8 am Mass, in English; and at 6:30 pm there will be bilingual Stations led each week by one of our ministries and followed by other activities. The April 5 Stations will be led by Grove for Ghana and will be followed by a movie. Mindo Futures Medical Mission has begun its collection of non-prescription, over-the-counter medications and supplies to help people in Mindo, Ecuador, which runs through April 7. Getting to Know the New Saints Conozcamos a los Nuevos Santos

SAINT PAULA MONTAL FORNÉS — Born in a devout Christian

family, she had to work from the age of 10 in order to help her

widowed mother raise five other children. She heard God’s call

to educate girls and young women, and accompanied by her

life-long friend Inés Busquets, in 1829 she opened her first

school, with an educational program that far surpassed the

legislation at the time.

Feeling a strong connection with the ideas of St. Joseph

Calazans, she inserted her educational work to that of the

Piarists. With the guidance and support of Piarist Fathers

Jacinto Feliu and Agustín Casanovas, she obtained the

canonical approval of her Congregation.

Between 1829 and 1859 she personally founded seven schools and inspired and

helped the foundation of four others. She also personally formed the first 130 religious of

the Congregation. Today more than 800 Piarist sisters educate 30,000 students in 19

countries all over the world.

SANTA PAULA MONTAL FORNÉS — Nacida en una familia cristiana y sencilla, desde los 10 años tuvo que trabajar para ayudar a su madre, viuda con cinco hijos. Se sintió llamada por Dios para la tarea de educar a las niñas y jóvenes. Acompañada por su incondicional amiga Inés Busquets, en 1829 abrió su primera escuela, con amplios programas que superaban con creces lo legislado para los niños.

Identificada con el carisma de san José de Calasanz, injertó de su obra educativa en la Escuela Pía, y con la orientación y ayuda de los escolapios Jacinto Feliu y Agustín Casanovas, logró en breve tiempo la estructuración canónica de su Congregación. Entre 1829-1859, realizó una intensa actividad fundando personalmente 7 escuelas, e inspirando y ayudando a la fundación de otras 4. Fue además la formadora de las 130 primeras escolapias de la Congregación. Hoy más de 800 religiosas escolapias educan a unos 30.000 alumnos, en 19 naciones en todo el mundo.

The Pope Speaks / Habla el Papa

Lenten Message 2019 “For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the

children of God” (Rm 8: 19)

The root of all evil, as we know, is sin, which from its first

appearance has disrupted our communion with God, with

others and with creation itself, to which we are linked in a

particular way by our body….. Once God’s law, the law of

love, is forsaken, then the law of the strong over the weak

takes over. The sin that lurks in the human heart

(cf. Mk 7:20-23) takes the shape of greed and unbridled

pursuit of comfort, lack of concern for the good of others

and even of oneself. It leads to the exploitation of creation, both persons and

the environment, due to that insatiable covetousness which sees every desire

as a right and sooner or later destroys all those in its grip.

Como sabemos, la causa de todo mal es el pecado, que desde su aparición

entre los hombres interrumpió la comunión con Dios, con los demás y con la

creación, a la cual estamos vinculados ante todo mediante nuestro cuerpo. (…)

Cuando se abandona la ley de Dios, la ley del amor, acaba triunfando la ley del

más fuerte sobre el más débil. El pecado que anida en el corazón del hombre

(cf. Mc 7,20-23) —y se manifiesta como avidez, afán por un bienestar

desmedido, desinterés por el bien de los demás y a menudo también por el

propio— lleva a la explotación de la creación, de las personas y del medio

ambiente, según la codicia insaciable que considera todo deseo como un

derecho y que antes o después acabará por destruir incluso a quien vive bajo

su dominio.

This year, the St. Hugh Parish Sr. Kathleen Donnelly Scholarship Committee will select one or more award recipients who will receive or share up to $10,000 of scholarship funding, covering up to 95% of annual tuition, books, and school

related fees for one school year. The scholarship is need based and the exact amount awarded will be determined by the Scholarship Committee. Deadline

is May 1, 2019.

The kindergarten students have been working hard at mastering their 100 chart. Today, with the tables all moved aside, they worked together to construct a GIANT 100 chart. Each student had a specific role, but in the end, they worked together and created something worthy of a celebration!
