ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, RICHARDSON, TEXAS
announcements
Today initiates an amazing week of prayer and celebration in our Church—Holy Week!
Consider walking with Jesus during this week as he enters his passion, death, and resur-
rection. This experience will transform you and liberate you.
First, on Palm Sunday, two calendars collide. We begin the Holy week calendar with
Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. We wave palm branches and proclaim Jesus as
King! Yet, the Church quickly turns us towards Good Friday. The Gospel readings move
us to condemn the king that we have just hailed. On this day, Palm Sunday, ask yourself “Is Jesus the King of my life?”
Monday we walk with Jesus into the house of Lazarus, Martha, and Mary. Mary anoint-ed the feet of Jesus in a performative act that prefigured the upcoming death of Jesus
Christ. Her love moved her to such a reverential sign. How do you show reverence to
Christ Jesus in the Church? To your neighbor?
Tuesday Jesus eats a meal with his disciples and prophesies the betrayal of Judas Iscari-
ot and the denial of St. Peter. In our sin we are no different then Judas. A saint once said,
“Draw near to me Lord, or I will be Judas to you.” Today, is the diocesan Chrism Mass,
where priests renew their priestly promises and the Bishop blesses all the oil to be used
in sacraments in the upcoming year. What a grand event!
Wednesday is known as “Spy Wednesday” by our tradition. During this day, we walk
with Judas Iscariot as he makes his deal with the Pharisees. Many times sin starts with
the weak whisper of evil to compromise our faith to get what we want. We have listened
to Wormwood’s whisper before, just like Judas. We strengthen our mind and conscience
to reject these falsehoods and walk with Christ in His coming passion.
Holy Thursday begins the most important days of the year in the Church. We walk with
Jesus into the Upper Room and dine with Him with his apostles. He washes their feet and
institutes the Holy Eucharist and the Sacred Priesthood. Do this in memory of me. We
then walk with him to the Garden of Gethsemane, symbolized by our procession to our altar of repose. We stay with Him. When the candles go out that night, He is captured
and in-prisoned.
Good Friday is a day of hopeful mourning. We mourn that the God-man Jesus Christ
suffered and died and that our sins placed him on the cross. Yet we know that Easter
Sunday is coming. We celebrate the Stations of the Cross at 3 p.m., the traditional time
of the death of Jesus on the Cross. It is the hour of Divine Mercy. That evening, during
our Good Friday liturgy, we embrace the wood of the Cross, the wood on which hung
our savior.
Holy Saturday is a time of waiting. We wait for the victory! The victory is first revealed
in the Easter Vigil. If you have never been to an Easter Vigil, be ready for a powerful
experience of faith!
And then… Easter Sunday- “HE IS RISEN!”
Walk with Jesus Christ this week!

FEAST OF THE DIVINE MERCY NOVENA
The feast of Divine Mercy is celebrated every year on the first Sunday after Easter. As
revealed to St. Faustina, Jesus asked that the Feast of the Divine Mercy be preceded by a
Novena to the Divine Mercy which would begin on Good Friday. He gave St. Faustina
an intention to pray for on each day of the Novena. We will be praying the Novena as a parish this year. A booklet is included in the bulle-
tin this week to help you pray the novena, as an individual, a couple, or a family. We
will be praying the novena from Good Friday (March 25) through Easter Saturday
(April 2).
There will also be a holy hour celebrated on Divine Mercy Sunday (April 3) at 3p.m. in
the Main Sanctuary.

can provide that comforting answer. To
learn more about this option contact the Par-
ish Office at (972) 231-2951. A payment
