  • Principal Report On Friday the 17th of December we welcomed our 2018 Year 7 students for the first time as an entire group. They were here to take part in the testing day that had student’s complete tests for Numeracy, Literacy and abstract reasoning and is part of our Year 7 transition program. These tests will be used to assist in the process of allocating students to Home Groups for the following year, and allow our school to prepare targeted support and extension for those students identified through the testing. We look forward to having our 2018 Year 7 cohort into the school on several more occasions prior to the end of the year, with the Year 7 Information Evening to be held this week on the Thursday the 23rd of November and the Year 7 Orientation Day to be held on Tuesday the 12th of December. The school was fortunate to receive a grant in 2016 that saw the installation of a new shade sail area (pictured below) at the beginning of this year. During terms two and three the school ran a competition for students to design what should be included in the space beneath the shade sail. There were several entries from a range of groups from different year levels, however, the best design was submitted by a group of students in Year 8. These students are Zyrille De Leon (8A), Kim Ly (8A), Ka-tarina Kekez (8C), Jessica Baker (8A), Bhagveer Kaur (8C) & Christina Pici (8A). I look forward to working with these students on developing a plan for what will be an area used by all students for learning, relaxing and performing. And, I thank all of the students who submitted entries to the competition and wish them luck for the next activity they get involved in. If you have any questions about the above information please contact me at your earliest convenience. Mr Corey Jewell College Principal

  • Years 12 and 11

At the time of writing, Year 11s are completing their end of semester exams. At the completion of these exams there will be an exam feedback day for all Year 11 stu-dents which is a valuable opportunity for students to look for areas to improve upon and a chance to set goals for achievement in 2018. Year 11s will then have a Year 12 Orientation program that starts their coursework for next year. All students will be given course outlines, holi-day homework and a clear indication of the expectations of them in Year 12. All students in Years 11 and 12 need to use the time you have over holidays well to ensure preparedness for the year ahead. All holiday homework is designed to give students a head start on their course-work and the expectation is that this is all completed to the best of all students’ ability.

I remind all year 11s to ensure that the pay now for the study camp that will happen on the first 3 days of 2018. The study camp is a compulsory activity that counts to-wards attendance. The camp has been specifically de-signed to maximise student preparedness for VCE suc-cess and will offer a range of opportunities for students to undertake specialist workshops, wellbeing activities and have one on one time with their teachers.

All year 12s will officially finish their exams on Wednes-day 22nd of November, we’ve had many students continue to use the study centre as they prepare for ex-ams and I’d like to thank all staff who have supported our Year 12s through this exam period. The Year 12 Formal will be on Friday 24th November, we are looking forward to celebrating with the students!

Finally, the SRC has had its last Whittlesea SRC Cluster meeting for the year which focused on planning for 2018. We intend to continue our partnership with Base-line and look forward to bringing many new things to the students at Lalor Secondary in 2018!

    Ms. Julie Ryan

    Assistant Principal

    Years 10 and 9

The next couple of weeks will be a busy time for our stu-dents in years 9 and 10, as we approach the culmination of semester two assessment tasks. As always at LSC, it is important that students embrace all learning opportuni-ties seriously and to work efficiently to prepare for their exams and complete responses to the best of their abil-ity. Exams form one aspect of student assessment for this semester however more importantly they also pro-vide valuable practice in developing and building exam techniques in preparation for the senior years of school-ing. Through these exams, students begin to refine their time management skills and continue to develop skills of working under exam conditions. Even though students have been preparing for the exams in class it is essential that they prepare for these exams at home with effec-tive revision. Year 9 students will also be finishing off assessment tasks for their other subjects as well as com-pleting class work and homework activities in readiness for the end of semester. Please encourage your child by asking about their progress and the work that they are currently completing. This partnership between home and school is a vital one and goes a long way in ensuring successful outcomes for your child. As always, please feel free to email individual class teachers and to regu-larly check Compass to monitor their progress.

Students were given their exam timetables this week so please check in with your child to ensure they are aware of arrangements. These are also available on Compass.

It is important for all students to approach these exams with adequate preparation and a positive attitude to do their best. Wishing all students in years 9 and 10 the best in their coming exams.

An Orientation Program will follow the year 10 exami-nation period. This program allows students to obtain a head start to their studies. In all of their subjects they will be provided with course timelines, and begin pre-paratory course work to allow for a successful start to the academic year in 2018. They will also be allocated some holiday homework.

Finally a reminder for all current year 9 students who are wishing to apply for one of the senior School Scholarships that all applications are returned to the general Office by Friday December 1st.

  • Year 11 Debutante Ball

At the end of last term several of the Year 11 students participated in the Debutante Ball. The evening went exceptionally well with many family and friends of the students attending the evening. Andrew Giles the Federal MP for Scullen, Bronwyn Halfpenny the Member for Thomastown and Mayor Ricky Kirkham graced us with their presence on the evening and acted as our spe-cial guests alongside Mr Jewell. The night went incredi-bly well with everyone enjoying themselves. All the afternoons of practice dancing paid off as the debutante and partners did a fabulous job.

A big thank-you to Ms Jovanka Jovcevski and Ms Ferns for all their hard work in getting the ball ready and thanks to all the staff who turned up on the night to support the students involved. Hopefully next year goes as well!

    Girls Cricket

On the 24th of October 11 of the Year 7 girls headed out to participate in the Girls Cricket Team. The girls tried hard and enjoyed the format of the day. The girls played 5 games during the day in a round robin competition. Having gone straight through to the district competition the other schools had more experience and the girls tried valiantly. It was a mighty effort and the girls had fun and supported each other. They are keen to come back stronger for next year!

  • New VCE results and ATAR app

As year 12 students are finishing up their end of year exams and await their results I would like to congratulate you all on your achievements thus far. All year 12 students will now have received a letter from me with change of preference information and the offers process.

VTAC and the VCAA have collaborated to produce an app for VCE students to access their study scores and ATAR on a smartphone or tablet. The free app is availa-ble for download from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Search for ‘VCE Results and ATAR’. You can install the app now, but 2017 results and ATAR won’t be avail-able until 7.00 am Friday 15 December 2017.

Any student undertaking a unit 3 and 4 subject can ac-cess their results and ATAR, a student will need their VCE student number and Results Service PIN. The re-sults service PIN is set to a personalised default combi-nation and students are strongly encouraged to change it well before 15 December.

    Visit resultsandatar.vic.edu.au to do this.

In addition to student results, version 1 of the app pro-vides answers to frequently asked questions about re-sults, and information about how to contact the Post Results and ATAR Service (PRAS), VCAA, and VTAC. Note: Only 2017 results are available on this service. For information about other methods of accessing re-sults, please refer to the VCAA or VTAC websites.

Best of luck to Year 12s but don’t forget that your ATAR result isn’t the only pathway to achieving your dreams.
