1.UNCONDITIONAL LOVE

Rory loves his granda unconditionally. He does all that he can for his granda

who is ailing and suffering from loss of memory.

After school, he rushes home to get lunch for his granda and makes sure that Granda takes his pills on time.

When his granda makes a mistake of leaving the chip pan on the stove,they lose their home.

Rory is not upset with Granda and he does not abandon him.

Instead, he makes plans for them to be together even if it takes them to escape from the homes that they have been placed in.

It is not easy for a young boy to care for a sickly grandfather.

However, Rory does it without any complaints.

All he wants is for his granda to be happy.

2.KINDNESS

Sammy’s family is kind towards Rory and his granda.Sammy helps them to escape from the police at the caravan park.He drives them north to his brother’s place in Forfar . Ruby treats Granda with a lot of kindness.Her kind words and actions win him over.Granda is happy and is touched by this family’s kindness.When Rory tries to give her some money, she refuses.Ruby tells him to keep the money for the future use.

3.deTERMINATION

Granda is dying inside at Rachnadar.Rory’s heart breaks to see hid granda so distraught.He is determined to go ahead with it.It pains his heart to see his granda cry.All they want is to be together.The Great Escape is not without flaws.There are times when Rory wonders if he has made the right decision.

They face numerous obstacles. However, Rory and Granda are determined

to be together. Their determination pays off when they are

finally reunited with Jeff Mclntosh. They will never be separated again.

4. LOYALTY

Loyalty is displayed by all the people who help Rory and Granda.Darren is a loyal friends and he does his best to help Rory.He gives Rory the spare keys to his mother’s caravan.When the authorities close in on them, Darren warns Rory by text message.Sammy and his family help Rory and his granda.They do not disclose their whereabouts to the authorities and give them the support.Sammy’s family also extended their friendship and kindness to Rory and his granda.

Rab is another example of someone who goes out of the way to help Rory and his granda.

He supports Rory’s decision to look for his father and get help.

Rab arranges for Rory to travel to England. Many who help Rory and his granda are

loyal and sincere in giving support to them. They believe that both grandson and

grandfather should not be separated.

5. PATIENCE

Rory exhibits great patience.He is very patient with his granda who is suffering from loss of memory.Granda has thrown Rory’s home work down the chute.For a week, Rory has to come up with reasons for not handing in his homework to Mrs Foley.To prepare Granda for Parents’ Night, Rory has to help him to rehearse so that he does not say anything to insult Mrs Foley.

On Parents’ Night, Rory ang Granda are late. Granda forgets to change his slippers and they

have to go home to get his shoes. During the meeting with Mrs Foley, Granda not

only embarrasses Rory but also sets fire to his coat and Mrs Foley’s coat.

This incident becomes the talk of the school. Rory views the incident as an accident.

The ends
