PICTURE RE-TAKE DAY: OCTOBER 16. If your child needs a re-take, please make sure to
make arrangements to have this done.
QUESTIONS ABOUT HALLOWEEN PARTIES: At this time of the year,
parents start to ask about classroom Halloween parties. The school provides a party on
the evening of Friday, October 21 in conjunction with our BOOKFAIR. This is an all-school
family party. Children may come in costume as well as their parents for a great time of
games and haunted house etc. provided by our PTO. A flyer will be going out next week
about our annual “BOOBOOBOOBOO-RIFIC “PARTY.
Classroom parties will be on Monday, October 31. These do not involve costumes. There will be no after-
school programming that night.
NORTHWOODS OVERDRAWN LUNCH ACCOUNTS
PROGRAM Last year, the staff at Northwoods developed and funded a program that allow the
nutrition services staff to withdraw funds from an account to cover lunches/breakfasts for
students that have overdrawn accounts.
In the past, if a student had an overdrawn account of greater than $10 they were served a sandwich instead of
the regular meal. This was often embarrassing for the students and difficult for staff. We all know that
sometimes bills slip through the cracks and this happens with lunch money too! If your child has an overdrawn
account you will be notified via email or a letter from the school's nutrition department.
If your student uses the Northwoods Lunch Fund you will be notified that this has occurred so the account can
be updated. Your child may also qualify for a free or reduced lunch/breakfast and this information will be sent
home also. If any parents or guardians are interested in donating towards this account you may send a
donation to the school to: Attention Amy Petersen.
Coming soon: HEADS UP KINDERGARTEN PARENTS: We will soon be starting our Leaping into Leaping into Leaping into Leaping into
Language ArtsLanguage ArtsLanguage ArtsLanguage Arts after school program for Kindergarten children, taught by UW Stout teachers. Information and
sign-up sheets will go home during the week of October 10th. Please watch for these and return them quickly.
This program is free to our Kindergarten kids. It is a program that assists children in language arts
development such as reading, writing, word recognition, sounds, and all the parts that go into learning to
read. Our Kindergarten teachers highly recommend this program for all Kindergarten students.
NORTH HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING CLINIC:
Once again North High Husky Wrestling coach, Mike Persteiner, will be coming to Northwoods with his
wrestlers to offer a clinic after-school for our students from grades 2-5, girls and boys. It is always a popular
program and so fun. It is scheduled for Tuesday, October 25. Sign up forms will go out during the week on
October 10th.
NOVEMBER 8- ELECTIONS DAY AND SCHOOL DISTRICT

HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOM…..GRADE 5 Brianna Odegard's 5th grade classroom assembled our new Northwoods Garden Tower. Funded by
our PTO- this tower will remain in Mrs. Odegard's room for now, but will then move around the
school and be used by classrooms to connect to a variety of curricular areas. This is a wonderful
educational opportunity for our students! Science
lives in the classroom. See pictures on next page

IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO OUR PARENTS ABOUT OUR
ANNUAL “Christmas in the Northwoods”
Dear Parents--
Stephanie Bauer, Jenny Pick and I (Amy Westom) have been running Christmas in the
Northwoods for the past six years already, it seems like yesterday we were nervous about
throwing our first one without our predecessor. Unfortunately.... we are going to be growing out of
Northwoods soon and this year is Steph & Jenny's last year with Christmas in the Northwoods and next year
will be Amy's last year.
We are looking for people to work along-side us so that there is a seamless transition as we hand over
Christmas in the Northwoods to the new committee chairs. (Ideally we would like to have a committee of 3-4
to take over when we leave).
If you are interested in finding out more about what running the committee is like, please let me know. No
pressure, but we sure would love to keep Christmas in the Northwoods as great of an event in future years as
it has been in the past. This is not a committee that can just be jumped into, so we REALLY need someone that
would be willing to work with us this year to see what needs to be done before we hand it over!
Contact information -- best contact is [email protected] you may also call 715-450-1068, however due
to work and family schedules it's difficult to catch me on the phone!
