STANDARDISATION AND GLOBAL EXPERIE

KEY BENEFITS

GLOBAL REACH

STANDARDISATION AND GLOBAL EXPERIENCE

APPROACH

FOOD AND BEVERAGE

EXPERIENCE

REAL ESTATE ASPECTS– Appropriate qualities

regarding diverse markets

– Reduced life cycle costs

– Minimised realisation periods

– Preferred partner framework for rapid implementation

– Standard design for process layouts

CUSTOMER ASPECTS– Pre-customised

solutions– Rent ratio improvement– Time to market– Operational savings via

global specifications– Use own products– Flexible spaces,

mixed use– Better investment rate

of return

TYPICAL PROGRAM GOALSDevelopment of a strategic concept to

standardise and globalise multiple factory types and offices

Realise savings to CAPEX construction value and OPEX life cycle operational costs over the life span of the building. This clients we are working with are

targeting up to 15 percent and 5 percent respectively.

Output includes (regional and market adaptable):

– “Outline specification” for all building elements

– Layouts, sections, schematics and relevant details for technical assemblies

– Cost model with unit prices and benchmarks

Concentrate on items that can be standardised, and ignore exceptions such as site constraints and process details.

Use 80/20 rule to focus effort on the major elements that influence cost reduction the most effectively.

5%

15%

The program’s aim is to define the standards of facilities, best flexible space internally, buildings and elements to an appropriate level of detail.

The benefit of this experience to clients is that AECOM is able to provide a focussed approach to standardisation and globalisation, allowing clients to fully understand their key business needs. This is perhaps the most critical aspect of the entire process. Once these objectives are defined, with full stakeholder buy-in,

we are able to work with clients to develop a detailed approach to prepare the documentation.

Whatever the detail of the approach, it is critical that all activities are carried out in a collaborative manner, maximising the benefits to our clients.

AECOM has carried out a number of wide ranging standardisation programmes for industrial clients in various sectors and markets. These projects allow us to demonstrate that we have the ability to help clients meet their business needs in a similar way.

MARKET LEVEL CCOMPACT OFFICE

>> Improved “client experience” centres integrated with production

Reduce OPEX costs, improve production efficiency, increase margins, improve client interactions:

>> Consolidate production footprint

>> Increase use of multiple-product production to increase plant efficiency leads to “multi-modal” production

AECOM APPROACH PLANT EFFICIENCY

– We look at whether the facility is aging or under-performing and why

– We analyse the “red box” volumetric process/operational space

– We look at all plug-ins and output to serve the “red box”

– We look at operationally how to share the plug-ins especially underutilised

equipment, such as an overhead crane that is only used once a week! This results in consolidated shared space in a multi modal environment

– We analyse shared soft services, logistics, storage, maintenance, HR, accommodation, lifestyle

AECOM EXPERIENCEMULTIPLE PRODUCTION LINES FROM DIFFERENT BUSINESSES, AND ROOFTOP CONSOLIDATION INTO NEW AND EXISTING FACILITIES

– Business case development support: option feasibility analysis

– Concept engineering– Detailed design– Project management– Engineering, procurement

and construction management

MANY CLIENTS STARTED WITH ADDRESSING THIS WITHIN SINGLE PLANTS AND NOW ARE STARTING TO DO THE FOLLOWING ACROSS THEIR FACILITY PORTFOLIOS:

– Significantly increase efficiency gains by integrating across the business

– Elevate stakeholder engagement to correct business level

– Utilize better decision-making — away from the emotion-based approach

GEOGRAPHICAL/GEOPOLITICAL/CLIENT FACTORS

– Overlay current operations– Understand under-

performing businesses and why

– Understand where incoming and outgoing goods come from and go

– Know where the clients and end markets are

– Understand what transport links are required

– Know where the land value/tax incentive is most favorable

– Envisage future worker and talent pool — lower cost/higher volume — technical colleges etc.

– Know climate/culture/working environment on noise, light, etc.

– Know shared services, HR, accommodation, lifestyle, etc.

GLOBAL BENCHMARKING — GLOBAL UNIT

We have developed Global Unite, our own international benchmarking and project performance knowledge system.

Unrivalled design and cost knowledge in the

market in one system

global

Unite

A system gathering a wealth of previously

untapped data. Captures data at source

from estimating, BIM and CAD systems

Database of elemental cost data, project

information and key benchmark ratios. Invaluable bank of

knowledge to inform decision making on

new projects

Sector/market information, design drivers, plus cost,

functional and ancillary information

The AECOM global cost database underpins our standardisation cost toolkits.

Using GUIDE (Global Unite Indicative Design Estimator), we can quickly access the benchmark cost and design information in Global Unite in a mobile format.

LESSONS LEARNED FROM PREVIOUS

STANDARDISATION PROGRAMMES

FOCUS ON PROGRAMMEFor programmes of strategic importance, use a team that is only focussed on one project.

KEEP EYE ON BIG PICTURE OBJECTIVESReinforce the key goals more regularly and firmly. 80/20 rule — not designing a factory.

COLLABORATIONPrepare the team to think about the group and coordinate as a whole entity, not just single disciplines.

CONSIDER CO-LOCATIONHelps prevent the issues of lack of understanding of progress of others, both in terms of communication and technical items.

EXPERIENCEMake sure the combined team has the right level of knowledge and experience to make quicker decisions, instead of requiring a fully detailed cost comparison.

CLOSE OUT IN DETAIL AND GAIN CONFIRMATIONBe smarter at closing our information along with firmer responses to client as this will enable decisions to be made more quickly.

EXPECTATIONSIdentify key client issues and expectations, and focus efforts on addressing these in a more controlled and focussed manner.

DETAILED GOALSBased on vision/strategy, prepare a more detailed list of goals, deliverables and reviews.

ACCESS TO EXPERTSGain access to process/business line leads at early stages to identify key requirements based on experience.

BUY-INIdentify that buy-in from regional colleagues is a critical element.

EXPECTATIONSIdentify key client issues and expectations, and focus efforts on addressing these in a more controlled and focussed manner.

RECOGNITION OF SUCCESS Acknowledge work carried out and focus less on negative items. This improves team morale and increases commitment to the project.

CLEAR VISION At start of project, work with client to ensure a clear and detailed strategy for development and use is prepared and documented.

CONCENTRATE ON THE KEY ELEMENTSComplete all work on the key elements on a focussed basis, and ensure all specific comparisons and details are worked through.
