Principal’s message Dear Parents and Caregivers Our Kinder enrolments for 2021 have completed their 3 orientation days. It wasn’t our normal transition process because of our COVID guidelines but it worked really well. Parents signed the students in and then left for an hour of downtime. The students participated in activities, met buddies and learnt a little of what to expect at ‘big school’. They are such a settled group! Reports Teachers are completing reports at the moment. They will be more detailed than our end of Semester 1 ‘learning from home’ reports and will be sent home at the end of Week 9. Classes 2021 Teachers are also beginning to look at classes for 2021. If there are any issues that we need to be aware of that will impact on class placement, please put them in writing and forward the information to the Stage Supervisor. We can’t make promises but we will try and work with the information we have. We are unable to fulfil requests for specific teachers. Placement in the PEG classes is guided by results in the COGAT assessment. Stage Supervisors

• Kinder (ES1) Allisse Schaffer

• Year 1 and 2 (Stage 1) Kristina Kikilas

• Year 3 and 4 (Stage 2) Karla Wilson

• Year 5 and 6 (Stage 3) Jan Reardon

Presentation Day As with most other things, Presentation Day will happen but not as we know it. We will have a student’s only Presentation Day with the ceremony split into K-2 and 3-6. Photos will be taken of students who receive prizes and these will be available for parents to view. In the case of School Leader announcements, Dux, Jamie Affleck Award for Excellence and the Rhonda Belfield Award a video will be taken and uploaded for parents to view. Presentation Day will be held on 9th December. School Plan Thank you to the many families who responded to the Tell Them From Me Survey. The responses are really useful for us to use as we develop our School Improvement Plan. A link to complete a Google Form has already been distributed through School Story on Dojo and eNews. The questions we are asking are different from those of the Tell Them From Me Survey. Thank you again to the families that have fed back. The link to complete the Form is: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSczGOiHl6On38wplPS3zIWQiqk1Oyl6_zS3Bg7uuO6wPkExFw/viewform?usp=sf_link In addition to feedback from our school community; parents, teachers and students, we are examining our results from NAPLAN over a number of years to look at the growth of our students, this year’s check-in assessments, attendance data and welfare data. Additionally, research used in teacher’s professional learning will continue to inform future practice. As many of you might remember, Peakhurst PS was involved in the External Validation process this year, where we reported on our work against the 14 items on the School Excellence Framework. The results of this self –examination process in front of external DEC staff will also help to inform our new Plan. We are accountable to budgets and must justify programs we use to support student learning eg speech pathology programs and the 3 Bridges wellbeing program etc. Data must tell us that these programs and the additional focus on Equity support and PEG support makes a difference to student’s progress. All State schools across NSW are presently working on the 2021-2024 Plan and are following a similar process. Uniforms There have been some colourful decisions making their way into some school uniform choices. Peakhurst students are well known for their impressive uniform

and I understand that we are at the end of an exceptional year and students may have grown out of uniforms, shirts etc. However, when buying new bits for next year’s uniform would you please check that what you are buying is part of Peakhurst Public School uniform. A full description including photos of some outstanding models is on the school website. Claudines at Caringbah is our online supplier and they have a list of the correct uniform pieces. Black shoes are part of the uniform.

Returning in 2021 If you are going away over the Christmas holidays and your child will not be returning for the start of the school year in 2021 can you please write a note to the class teacher so that your child can be included in numbers and therefore class arrangements.

Library Borrowing A reminder that the last borrowing day for 2020 will take place on Thursday, 26 November (week 7), with all books to be returned before Friday, 4 December.

Could you be an ethics teacher for Peakhurst Public School?

We are seeking volunteers so that we can provide ethics classes for all the families who have requested it for their children. We currently have 4 volunteer Ethics teachers at PPS – unfortunately, it is not enough for all the students that have enrolled in Ethics. Ethics teachers receive full training by Primary Ethics, the not-for-profit organisation approved to design curriculum and training for the ethics program. Training consists of a two day workshop and short online modules. Lesson materials are provided. Suitable volunteers have an interest in children’s education and development of critical thinking skills and must be available at 9.20am on Tuesday morning each week. In ethics classes, children learn how to think logically, disagree respectfully and support their arguments with evidence, rather than act according to blind habit or peer pressure. Children discuss topic such as:

- imagining how others feel - how do we treat living things? - what is laziness? - how do we disagree in a respectful way? - fairness If you are looking for an opportunity to make a valuable contribution to our school, please visit www.primaryethics.com.au or contact Peakhurst Public School’s ethics coordinator, Amy O’Mara on 0410 552 027 or [email protected]
