Preamble Dengue has emerged as a worldwide problem since the 1950s. With more than one-third of the world’s population living in areas at risk of dengue and up to 100 million people are infected yearly, this is now a leading cause of morbidity in the tropics and subtropics. While Dengue in Pakistan was diagnosed as early as 1995, cases have increased dramatically since 2005 and cyclic epidemics occur. Over the last year, new modalities for diagnosis are now available allowing for more rapid identification of patients. Management of patients has also been greatly simplified by WHO. Vaccines are being developed but as of now mosquito control remains the key method of preventing the infection.
