Flottec 2000 Series CollectorsProduct Data Sheet

Flottec 2000 Series products are acid and aqueous forms of cresylic and alkyl monothiophosphates (MTP) and

dithiophosphates (DTP). These products are used primarily for the flotation of sulfide ores containing copper, lead,

zinc, silver, and gold. The DTPs are especially suited for sulfide flotation in alkaline circuits when selectivity against

iron sulfides is needed. MTPs are especially well suited for sulfide flotation in acid circuits and to improve the

recovery of gold at any pH. By varying the hydrocarbon chain length and the type of salt created, the collector

activity, frothing characteristics and pH operating range can be modified greatly, making MTPs and DTPs a very

    versatile series of products.

    Methods of Addition and Uses

Flottec 2000 series collectors (except those supplied inacid form) are aqueous and can be added neat or dilutedup to ten times for ease of metering. The products arealso stable in both acid and alkaline circuits. Usualtreatment levels are 5 100 grams/ton, added either tothe grinding circuit or to the flotation circuit. Stageaddition will usually enhance performance. Each product

has its own frothing characteristic nature. Generally, alkylDTP exhibit little or no frothing characteristic for C2 andC3 carbon chain length. The frothing characteristicbecomes more prevalent with increasing carbon chainlength. All cresylic based products contribute to thefrothing characteristic of the flotation pulp based on thetype of cresylic used in its manufacture. Plant testing isrecommended to determine optimum addition points andtreatment levels.

The main duty for sodium dialkyl DTPs are the flotation ofcopper sulfides, copper activated sphalerite, nickel sufidesand ores containing gold, silver and PGMs whereselectivity is required against iron sulfides in alkaline

circuits. They are used as well when selectivity is neededfor copper sulfides from galena or non activatedsphalerite. Higher carbon chain products are also effectivefor middlings flotation. The frothing characteristic of theproduct increases with increasing carbon chain. DTPsexhibit excellent collecting properties for the flotation ofiron sulfide minerals in acidic circuits.

The sodium and ammonium dicresylic DTP does behavevery similarily to the alkyl products. These productsprovide an additional benefit in that they are excellentgalena and silver collectors and have frothing propertiesacross the range. The frothing characteristic of theproducts can be varied. The acid form tends to exhibit the

highest frothing characteristic. Those properties thendecrease relative to the counter ion from sodium toammonium to finally the organic salt form being least. The strength and frothing characteristic of the productscan also be varied similarly to the alkyl DTPs by modifyingthe grade of cresylic acid used. Purer forms tend toexhibit less frothing characteristic and are more selectivethan products manufactured with impure forms of cresylicacid.

The sodium dicresyl and dialkyl MTPs were designedoriginally to be copper collectors in acid circuits and theLeach

Precipitation Flotation (LPF) process. However, theyhave been found in certain conditions to be superiorauxiliary collectors for ores containing free gold inalkaline circuits. The dialkyl MTPs are typically usedwhen excessive frothing in the flotation circuitbecomes an issue.

Flottec 2000 series products can be used alone or inconjunction with other collectors, although care mustbe taken when used in conjunction with xanthates inorder to maintain the benefits of the improvedselectivity of the DTPs and MTPs.

    Toxicology and Industrial Hygiene

The acid forms of the DTPs should not be pre-mixedwith water as this will liberate poisonous gases. Theproducts should be added directly to the flotationcircuit to avoid gas liberation at the levels used inflotation pulps. These aqueous products are of analkaline nature. Prolonged contact with skin should

be avoided and alkali burns may result if properprotective equipment is not used during handling. Ifskin contact occurs, the area should be cleansed withcopious quantities of water, including the eyes.

Vomiting should be induced if taken internally. Pleaserefer to the appropriate MSDS for individual productsafety information.

    Shipping, Handling and Storage

The products are available in 55 gallon poly drumsand returnable 275 gallon totes. Please contactcustomer service for the net and gross weights.

These products are corrosive to most metals. It isrecommended that the product be stored in 316stainless steel or mild steel tanks with phenolic liners.Mild steel can be used but is not recommended. Allcomponents for transferring these materials should beplastic or phenolic or able to withstand alkaline oracid corrosion for both neat and diluted material. Donot use copper, brass or soft rubber in feed or

storage systems. Avoid storage near extreme heat.Do not mix with acidic solutions to prevent H2Sgeneration.
