Understand the service provider’s history and finances Are  you  at  risk  of  losing  your  investment  if  your  provider  suddenly  ceases  opera<ons?  There  will  always  be  small  providers  offering  “too  good  to  be  true”  pricing,  but  you  cannot  risk  partnering  with  a  company  that  does  not  have  proven  longevity  in  the  marketplace.

Key  items  to  consider  or  ques<ons  to  ask  your  provider  as  part  of  your  due  diligence  effort:

How  long  have  you  been  in  business?    How  many  devices  do  you  have  deployed  on  your  plaWorm?    How  many  customers  do  you  service?    Do  you  have  any  recogni;ons/awards  that  demonstrate    your  value  proposi;on?    How  are  you  funded….who  are  your  investors?    Who  are  your  largest  customers?    What  ver;cal  markets  do  you  support  and  sell  into?

Can  I  prevent  security  breaches  into  my  system?

Can  I  have  a  separate  set  of  rules  for  each  user    (admin,  mgmt.,  drivers,  etc.)?

What  mapping  system  does  the  provider  use?    Does  mapping  include  the  US,  Canada,  and  Mexico?    What  different  mapping  views  do  they  provide?  Satellite,  road  map,  bird’s  eye,  street  level,  2D/3D  mapping?    How  o`en  does  your  provider  upgrade  to  the  latest  mapping  views?    Are  you  able  to  integrate  custom  map  layers  (energy  specific,  etc.)?  Is  there  a  fee  for  custom  reports?

Can  I  easily  navigate  through  the  site  without  having  to  backtrack  through  mul;ple  pages?

Do  they  offer  easy  access  to  support  when  help  is  required?

Is  the  interface  flexible  enough  to  provide  mul;ple  views  (dashboards)  segmen;ng  views  based  upon  asset  type,  project,  loca;on,  etc.?

Does the provider provide customized reporting? Repor<ng  is  the  retrieval  of  the  raw  data  and  presen<ng  this  data  in  a  format  that  is  useful  and  easy  to  understand  for  the  customer.    How  the  data  is  presented  to  the  end  user  is  important  for  many  reasons.  From  history  reports  to  inventory  status  reports,  the  basics  should  be  easy  to  use,  but  they  also  should  give  the  end  user  the  ability  to  manipulate  that  data  by  date  range  or  by  specific  GPS  device.  Look  long  and  hard  at  repor;ng  within  the  system  and  ask  many  ques;ons.

Does  the  provider  offer  other  complimentary  services  –  data  analysis  (i.e.  performance  trending)?  Can  the  provider  quan;fy  value  and  return  on  Investment  throughout  the  engagement?
