The Solon City School District is the only district in Ohio to be rated in the same school year within the top five for both student achievement and student growth measures. In his current role, at Lewis Elementary School, Mike’s efforts led to increased levels of achievement and growth as the district continues to perform as one the most effective school districts in Ohio. Previously, Mike led Orchard Middle School to national recognition as a National School to Watch and to the third highest value-added ranking of all Ohio schools. Lewis Elementary School subscribes to top priorities: 1.  Instructional decisions will be data-driven and made in the best interest of the

student 2.  Each student will achieve their personal best and show at least one year’s

growth 3.  Highly effective teams are critical and teachers work collaboratively to ensure

the highest quality instruction each day Contact: [email protected] Follow: @mikeacomb

Prior to her central office position, Stephanie was an elementary/middle school principal for 12 years. Under her leadership, each of Stephanie’s schools improved their state academic ranking and students consistently demonstrated more than a year’s growth in a year’s time. Her schools received several awards for tremendous gains in student growth data. Stephanie often speaks at education events around the state of Ohio, sharing her practical ideas for continuous improvement. Fort Frye subscribes to top priorities: 1.  Establish a focused plan with limited goals 2.  Foster the capacity for teacher leadership 3.  Hold people accountable Contact: [email protected]

Indian Hill Elementary School has consistently been recognized as a high achieving school, earning “Excellent with Distinction,” by the Ohio Department of Education. The value-added scores from the Ohio Achievement Assessment in grades four and five have demonstrated more than a year’s worth of growth for three years including last year’s results of gains greater than at least 2 standard errors. Indian Hill Elementary School subscribes to top priorities: 1.  All student will show at least one year’s of growth 2.  Students who fall within subgroup categories will make progress equal

with their school-wide peers 3.  Staff members will create a school environment that is conducive to

student achievement, including professional learning communities that focus on meeting students’ academic, social, and emotional needs.

Create a “stop doing” list

“Most of us have a never-ending “to do” list, trying to build momentum by doing, doing, doing–and doing more. And it rarely works. Those who built ‘good-to-great’ organizations, however, made as much use of ‘stop doing’ lists as ‘to do’ lists. They had the discipline to stop doing all the extraneous junk.”
