You can see Mike Hamilton, John Lanzara, Gene Sullivan, yours truly, to name a few. There’s usually someone at the club who can hook you up with tickets. The event is held at Canstatter’s 9130 Academy Rd, about 10 minutes from the club. The doors open at 5pm, dinner is served at 7pm. There’s a cash bar. Events include, live and silent auctions, raffles, door prizes. You can win firearms, hunting, shooting, fishing gear, NRA themed stuff, and much more. The proceeds of this event go to supporting the junior programs at the club. Over the years, our junior divisions have benefitted significantly from this event. Your support is encouraged. Plus it’s a good time and hey, you might even take home some prizes. If we can get you to come out once, you’ll come back year after year. It really is a good time. It gets a bit difficult trying to find something to write about each month. Writing this column might be the single worst part of being club president. This month I went looking for inspiration thru local news stories. I didn’t have to look far to find something relevant to firearms and firearm safety. Four months ago there was a shooting incident at a police training facility in Montgom- ery County that resulted in the death of a rookie state trooper. The story was back in the news recently because the shooter was criminally charged two weeks ago. If you haven’t read the story, you would think that some rookie screwed up while making some rookie mistake. You might be surprised to find this is not the case. The shooter was in fact a 20 year vet of the State Police, and has more than 10 years’ experience as an instructor. According to the Philly Inquirer I’ll quote “On Sept. 30, Trooper Kedra was one of five troopers sitting around a table at the Public Safety Training Campus in Plymouth Township. Trooper Schroeter was discussing the trigger mechanics when he pulled the trigger on his duty-issued firearm, the Dis- trict Attorney’s Office and the state police said in a joint statement. The weapon fired, and a bullet struck Kedra in the abdomen. He died about an hour later at a trauma center in Phila- delphia.” WHAT??? I point this story out just to demonstrate how someone with so much experience can become complacent and make multiple mistakes at the same time resulting in a tragic incident. This guy was no rookie, yet in a moment of sheer stupidity managed to commit 4 or 5 rookie mistakes all at once. I’m pointing out this story in an effort to remind every mem- ber that we all need to be on our game 100% anytime we’re handling firearms. I know many of you have put your guns away after hunting season and are waiting out the cold winter months before dragging them out for some fair weather range time. I suggest you review the club’s range rules and standard firearm safety practices before heading to the range. For those of you who are new to the game, the club offers several NRA 1 st steps programs at reduced cost. If you’re unsure of yourself, or feel you could use a refresher, you’re welcome to sign-up for these courses. You can see Gene Sullivan, club secretary John Kevlock, or myself for details. I know it’s a bit of a hokey tag line, but so true. Firearm safety is no accident. Let’s keep it that way!!!

We finally had a chance to take a trip

up to Potter County to do some ice

fishing. Our first day out on Hammonton

Lake wasn’t great. But on our second day

we hit Beechwood Lake where the fishing

was excellent. I caught a total of 30 nice

trout. The majority of them were in the

range of 14-16 inches. We’re hoping to get

another chance to head back up before the

ice melts. By Patrick B Clarke

Holmesburg Fish & Game Protective As

X Ring Scores

For Sunday February 2015

Our first shoot is scheduled for March 22,2015 we will be shooting paper targets

at 50 yards. These targets will be off the benchof the monkey pole and off hand, we mayeven have a novelty target in there, and thatcould be set up at any yardage the 25 yardtargets will be all shot off hand. We will alsohave a pistol target set up at 25 yards. All pis-tol shooters that shoot a black powder pistolat one of the shoots, you must have a loadingStand and only load one shoot at a time. I willtry to have a loading stand on hand for shoot-ers that do not have one. These are fun shootsand we want everyone to have a good time ifyou have a black powder gun bring it downand we will show you what to do or if you donot want to shoot you can come on down andwatch everybody else and see how they do it,you will see a lot of shooters shooting differ-ent guns and loading these guns their way.But one thing for sure they are all doing it theright way and a safe way. Safety is our toppriority we do this to protect all shooters andany spectators that are watching the shoots.Anyone interested or want more informationon the shoots call me at (267) 968-6564 By Patrick B Clarke

When I put the newsletter together I haveto wait for all the articles and the scores

to come in by the time I get everything to-gether and move everything around so it willfit and get it ready to be sent off to the print-ers. This takes to the end of the month andsometimes the 1st or 2nd of the fallen month. Ithen send it by email to the printers by thetime the printer prints it then folds it and sendsit off to the Postal Service to be mailed out inbulk by standard mail. This takes approxi-mately 24 to 48 hours. I know some of ourclub members do not receive our newslettertoo late in the month and I know some thatreceives it in less than 2 weeks. I don’t reallyknow why it takes that long I tried to find thisout before but couldn’t get the answer in thefuture I will try get the paper put together alittle earlier so I can get it out to our club mem-bers in a reasonable time. I will also try againto find out why it takes so long. By Patrick B Clarke

Military Rifle Match Scores For

February 2015

A man and his wife moved back home to

Cork, from London. The wife had a

wooden leg and to insure it in Britain was

£2000.00 a year! When they arrived in

Cork, they went to an Insurance agency to

see how much it would cost to insure the

wooden leg. The agent looked it up on the

computer and said to the couple, ‘•39.00.’

The husband was shocked and asked why

it was so cheap here in Ireland to insure,

because it cost him £2000.00 in England!

The agent turned his computer screen to the

couple and said, ‘Well, here it is on the

screen, it says: *Any wooden structure,

with a sprinkler system over it, is •39.00.
