Introduction to the Liturgy of the Word

Today’s readings emphasize that we are called to do

more during Advent than just wait for the Lord’s com-

ing. We are called to act. Isaiah calls all people to

come in peace and light to the mountain of the LORD.

Saint Paul encourages the Romans to live in the light,

conducting themselves appropriately. Jesus warns his

disciples that the Second Coming could occur at any

time and they must be prepared. Let us prepare right

now by listening attentively to the word of God.

What am I doing that I would not want seen in the light

of day, or at the hour I do not expect? What do I need

to do to change this?

Introducción a la Liturgia de la Palabra

Las lecturas de hoy enfatizan que durante el Adviento

somos llamados a hacer algo más que esperar la venida

del Señor. Somos llamados a actuar. Isaías llama a

todos los pueblos a venir en paz al monte del Señor y a

caminar a la luz del Señor. San Pablo exhorta a los

romanos a revestirse de la luz y a comportarnos

dignamente. Jesús le advierte a sus discípulos que la

segunda venida puede ocurir en cualquier momento y

por eso deben estar preparados. Preparémonos en este

instante escuchando la palabra de Dios.

¿Qué estoy hacienda que no quisiera que saliera a la luz

o en un momento inesperado? ¿Qué debo hacer para

cambiar eso?

FAITH FORMATION CLASSES

Faith Formation Classes are held at the

school building located at 86-37 53rd Avenue,

on Sundays from 8:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.,

from September through May.

A new registration must be completed for all present stu-

dents as well as new students to attend our program. Parents

must bring the following documents when registering:

- Baptism Certificate

- Birth Certificate, if child is not baptized

- A Parish Transfer letter is required if child attended

another parish

RECONCILIATION MONDAY

Monday, December 16, 2019

On Monday, December 16th, Ascension Parish will

celebrate the Diocesan observance of “Reconciliation

Monday.” Priests will be available to hear confessions

between the hours of: 9:30 a.m. and 12 Noon.

110th PRECINCT TOY COLLECTION

This year Ascension Church will be partici-

pating in conjunction with the 110th Pre-

cinct and Queens North Sleigh Ride to col-

lect new toys for girls and boys in our vi-

cinity. New toys for boys and girls may be dropped off

at the Rectory Office. The toys do not have to be

wrapped. Gift tags for the toys are available in baskets

at the Church.

Last day to drop off the toys is

Monday, December 9th.
