In Touch Where God’s love overflows and serving begins.
Another Day, Another Decade, Another Chance
We serve a God of second chances (whew!) and we often need to take advantage of that gift from the One who loves us and want us to succeed more than we realize. We dream, we prepare, we study, we analyze, we seek another’s input, we make a plan, and we work it through. Seems very Presbyterian, doesn’t it? You know, decently and in order. Then, something goes awry, or another kink shows up in the system and all our work needs a do-over.
Well, we have a name for that. It’s called a New Year! So, in 2020, we can begin again, or we can add to, or we can celebrate accomplishments and decide whether to repeat the opportunity. It’s up to us. And Emmanuel rejoices as we use our minds, our talents and our gifts to further the Kingdom.
All of us recognize that we still have some items that will require a continuing plan, some items that will be brand new, some that perhaps should be dropped, and some in desperate need of a do-over. All will be considered as together we serve the People of God at FPC Gallatin.
Now, we will ask something very special, and perhaps very different, of you. We need your minds, your talents and your gifts to advance our church ministries. Because it’s a new year, we’re going to ask you to sign up to serve a committee. But we’re asking you to serve on a committee that you haven’t served on before, or haven’t served on for a long time. Why? Because we want to think differently. We want fresh faces and new ideas. We want to determine what works best, what could benefit from a slight alteration, and what needs a complete do-over. It’s another day, we have another chance. If the same people serve the same committees in the same way, we’ll probably get the same stuff. But, if new people serve, and/or serve in another place, we might get stuff that’s better! And wouldn’t that be great?
So, here’s the challenge: Don’t hesitate. Don’t step out in fear. Try something new and different. If you really, really don’t like it, we won’t insist that you remain there. But we hope you’ll step out in faith – if only to learn a new way, or a new group, or a new gift you didn’t even know you had. If you’d like my input before you deside, call me and we’ll talk together. I might be able to tell you something about yourself and your gifts that you’d forgotten about.
It’s another day. We have another chance. We serve a Creative Sovereign. God’s work is not boring. Serve, laugh, grow, dance with the Creator. Sure it’s risky. But not if we all do it. And, on occasion, if you’d like to preach from the pul-pit, I’ll gladly step aside and sit in your pew. If you’ll do it, so will I.
You are God’s beloved,
Candice “Sing to the Lord a new song!”

MEMORIALS
Where God’s love overflows and serving begins.
Please take a moment to see our brand new table. It is a stunning gift from Linda
Bradley. This is a table that Johnny, Linda’s husband, used every day. After
Johnny’s death Linda wanted the church to have it. It is so perfect, and so ex-
traordinary, and so massive, we wanted to put it in its new location once. (because
we’re pretty sure we couldn’t lift it again.) And you know what? It looks like it’s at
home! It really belongs right there in the garden entrance.
The table that had been in that space has now been moved upstairs, in the hall-
way across from the elevator, where it will be used often as we sign cards and
produce seasonal items for the church family.
Thank you Bradley Family!
Our Newest Family

baptized on Sunday, December
22nd with grandmother, Susie

The Foundation for CAP’s
We had so much fun during the fall semester of The Foundation for CAP.
The kids enjoyed it, but no more so than the teachers. It's so good to see
smiles all around.
We're taking January off, but we'll be back in full swing in February. If you'd
like to find out how you could participate in this fulfilling mission project, see
Jennifer Anderson, Jessie Hines, or Michelle Jouvence and ask them how you
can become involved. Even if you only have one or two Wednesday after-
noons available during the semester... even if you don't have a specific tal-
ent... we can find a way for you to be a part of the smiles too.
The Foundation for CAP is a unique outreach of First Presbyterian Church
Gallatin in which we offer creative classes to the at-risk students of the non-
profit program Children Are People. We meet Wednesdays from 4-5:15.

Welcome to new
Ruling Elders!
The Ruling Eld-
ers of Gallatin’s
First Presbyte-
rian Church ex-
amined: Bob DeGraff, Susan
Johnson and returning member Bob
Blakey for membership on the Session
for three-year terms as Ruling Elders.
A Congregational Meeting will be held
on Jan 5th to vote on the nominees
and to accept nominations from the
floor. If the vote passes, we will or-
dain Susan Johnson and reinstall Bob
Blakey and Bob DeGraff on Sunday,
January 12, 2020. A fourth candidate,
Peggy Patterson, has also agreed to
serve and will be examined and or-
dained at a future date.
Security system
Based on feedback from congregation
members, the new security system for
access into the church building seems
to be working more smoothly.
Youth/Creative Arts Building
Following inspection and appraisal,
the potential buyers of the Youth/
Creative Arts building on Locust Ave-
nue reopened negotiation on the sale
price of the property. Once an agree-
ment has been finalized Session will
bring the item back before the church
at a congregational meeting to vote on
any revisions in the terms of sale.
Love in Action reports
The Love in Action committee re-
ported that the final $245 remaining
of the budget formerly slated for Ap-
palachian Service Project was donated
to the Boy Scout troop that meets at
our church to help purchase new
tents.
God’s Economists/Finance Com-
mittee and the 2020 Budget
To date, pledges for 2020 come to
approximately $216,000. Session
members reviewed a first draft of the
2020 budget at the December meeting
and offered several suggested revi-
sions to implement into a second
draft. Chuck Deck said he and Marie
Hintenmeyer will work toward having
the revisions completed in time for a
special vote by year’s end.
Infant baptism
First Presbyterian Church will
celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism
on Sunday, December 22, with Amelia
DiLeo, granddaughter of Susie and
Dan Driver and daughter of Sarah
Jane and Joe DiLeo,
Christmas Eve service
Join the congregation of First Presby-
terian Church this Tuesday, December
24, at 5:00 p.m. for a very special
Christmas Eve service as we celebrate
the Christ Child’s birth.
By Liz Ferrell, Clerk of Session
There will be a meeting of the congre-
gation on Sunday, January 5, 2020, for
the purpose of electing new elders and
to vote on information regarding the
sale of the Youth House.
UPDATE ON OUR NEW DIRECTORY
The church has received the proof
copy of our new directory. We are in
the process of proofing and hope to
have this completed by the second
week of January. It will then be sent
back to Lifetouch to be printed. Will
keep you updated on the progress.
PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN
Circle 3 will meet
on Monday, January
13th at 6:30pm.
The ladies of Circle
2 will meet on
Wednesday, January 15th at 10am at
the church in room 212.

Dear Friends,
Thank you so much for all the prayers, phone calls, cards and visits during my
recovery from my broken foot. I’m truly thankful for all the good wishes and
concern from my church family. I’m on the final road to recovery, and have to
wear the big boot a while longer. It’s heavy and awkward, but at least I can walk
now, and plan to be back at church soon.
Peace and blessings,
Peggy McMurtry
Thank you to the following who participated in decorating the church for the
Christmas holiday season: Tommy Boze, The Garrott Family, Betty Reynolds,
Morgan, Earl and Avery Linn, Chris, Trisha and Madison Briggs, Shirley
Arrendale, Johnny Cothran, Fred, Laura, and Sean Duffer, Jessie Lynne Hines,
Sussanne Sawyer, Rich Ring, Bill and Nancy Hamby, Betty Garrott, and Bob and
Fran Young.
Many, many thanks!
The Worship Committee
Thank you! Your staff was blessed beyond our wildest expectations this Christmas season when your gifts were tabulated. The Finance Chair made note of the abundance of love. So thank you, thank you, thank you all for allowing us to serve you this year. You have made our jobs easier in so many ways. And we are grateful to everyone. GOD’S ECONOMICS (FINANCIALS)
November Financials
Beginning Balance $23,829
Income $23526
Expenses $21,165
Ending Cash Balance $26,190
The 2020 budget for our Church is being finalized and ready to be
presented to the session for approval. At this time, it remains to be a
little shy of reaching our goal for our operating budget.
If, however, some pledges have not been submitted, those people
may submit a pledge card (they're available on the table that holds
the bulletins) and can be put in a sealed envelope and placed in the
collection plate, or left in the church office. It could go a long way
to allowing us to complete church plans for next year.
LEARNING MORE (CHRISTIAN EDUCATION)
Wednesday Night Together: We will not have a
Wednesday night meal on 1/1/20, obviously, but on
1/8/20 we will resume Wednesday Night Together
with a Baked Potato Bar sponsored by the committee
and the charge will be a love offering. At the 1/8/20
WNT the committee would like to discuss important
matters about the continuation of the meals and much
needed assistance to organize, and plan the Wednesday
night meals. By 1/15/20 Oh Taste and See will con-
tinue to cater the WNT meals however, we ask that
you be in prayer for volunteers to help assist.
Discussion was started for Ash Wednesday and Palm Sunday/Easter activities along with a Lenten study.
The committee continues to seek volunteers for Sunday School Superintendent and Church Librarian.
The next Learning More committee meeting is tentatively set for 1/6/19 at Susan Baker’s home. Please contact Susan Baker,
Susan Johnson, Sharon Sides, Dianne Cothran, Nancy Parsons, or Ann Thurman for directions or questions. Happy New
Year and praise God from whom all blessings flow!
