PastorA Word From Your

Be blessed, Pastor Mark

It should come as no surprise that I am writing to you about the 2011 Harvest

Sunday Offering. This has been an annual event since the Lord led Dr. Redmond

to introduce the idea back in the 80’s. God has used this time of sacrificial giving

to enable our church to be a part of reaching the world with the “Good News”.

This year we are asking God to move us to give sacrificially as we declare His

goodness and ultimately, His glory. As we prayed about the Harvest Day Offering

the Lord has shown us two very important items that need our attention. First,

Harvest Day Offering will continue to provide the means for our church to be a

part of fulfilling the great commission, as we go and make disciples “From Our

Neighborhood to Nepal”. Second, we will pay down the debt incurred during

our renovation of the current fellowship hall and the new construction of the

Recreation Outreach Center. We know that a building can do nothing in and of

itself but it is without a doubt one of the greatest tools we have to impact our

community with the good news of Jesus Christ as we use it for the glory of God.

As I pray about Harvest Sunday I am reminded of two contrasting attitudes

people have concerning the release of the resources the Lord has entrust-

ed us to manage. In the short prophetic word of Haggai there is an insightful

conversation between God and His reluctant people. God speaks and says, “You

tell Me you cannot find the resources to accomplish My work, in this case the

rebuilding of the temple, but I look and see how you have all you need and more

to accommodate your own desires of luxury and comfort.” His next words are

significant: “Consider your ways”. I encourage you to read all of this prophecy

and pay close attention to the first eleven verses. In contrast turn your attention

to II Corinthian 8. We will call these people His “ready people”. Paul is telling the

reluctant people in Corinth about the believers in Macedonia. “In the midst of

incredible financial hardship, in a great ordeal of affliction their abundance of joy

and their deep poverty overflowed in the wealth of their liberality”. They gave

beyond their ability and it was their idea. Not only did they give sacrificially, they

begged to give in the midst of the struggle. This is the work of the Spirit of God!

My prayer for the body of Christ is more than raising a large sum of money on

Harvest Sunday. My prayer is for the Holy Spirit to so control your life, my life,

that we desire to give sacrificially to be a part of what God is doing. I pray we

will be eager to tithe, eager to bring our offerings; not because we have to but

because we understand how blessed we are as the people of God!
