Log onto SORA through the google waffle. Look up a story - biography

[about a person’s life] about someone we’ve learned about in

Social Studies this year.

George Washington did not take good care of his teeth. Write him a

letter. Explain ways to keep his teeth healthy and why that is

important.

Roll a die 3 times or choose 3 playing cards. Write down the three numbers.

Create a fact family using the 3 numbers. Remember a fact family has

2 addition and 2 subtraction number sentences.

Do you know what a surveyor does? They measure land space. Count the number of steps it takes to walk the

perimeter of your house, room, backyard, or family room. Compare two of the rooms, which is greater and why

do you think this?

Play HopscotchCreate a hopscotch board and write

sight words in each box. While hopping make sure you read each

word you land on. Play multiple times using different voices.

Start a journal about what life has been like recently. Write about what you’ve

been doing and how you’ve been feeling. This is a moment in history! Bonus: add pictures or newspaper

clippings to create a scrapbook!

Get a deck of cards. Turn over 3 cards at a time. Add the 3 numbers together. What is the sum? What 2

numbers did you add first, did it make a 10? Face cards can be 10 or can be

removed before playing.

Create your own addition or subtraction story problem about

Washington or Jefferson. Show how you would solve the problem.

Oral TraditionsCall an older family member. Ask

them to share a story with you about when they were little. Draw a picture

to help you remember this story.

Write a list of compound words that have to do with your home,

your yard and sports.

Get a group of coins and see how many different ways you can sort

them (by different attributes). Do you remember the famous Virginian who

was the first African American bank president?

Imagine you are sharing a pie with 3 other friends. Draw a picture to show how you would cut the pie so each person gets an equal-sized slice.

What if you shared the pie with only 1 other friend?

Virginia has the /er/ sound spelled ir. Create a list of 5 words spelled

with ir/ er/ ur.

Sort words about George Washington that have long and

short vowel sounds.

Practice doubles by creating two groups of items. What is the sum? Write the equation. Add 1. Now

what is the equation/sum?

Gather 10 of your favorite toys and put them in a line. Using notecards or

paper, label each toy’s position using ordinal numbers (first, second, third,

etc.)

Do this experiment: use 2 pennies and 2 tablespoons of vinegar and water. Put the pennies in their own

bowls. Pour vinegar on one and water on the other. How do they both

change? Extra: Who is on the penny?

Compare and contrast George Washington to Thomas Jefferson. Share the ways they are alike and

different with a family member. How do you compare to these presidents?

Art

Use material scraps to create a rag ball or doll.

G.Washington loved trees! Do you notice a favorite tree in your yard? How has it changed this spring? How does the temperature change when you sit

under a tree canopy? Why?

Think about the garden tools we have today. How do you think our tools are different from the tools

Washington and Jefferson used for their gardens?

MusicSing “Yankee Doodle” while

marching. Pretend you are in a parade. Wave your flag high!

Thomas Jefferson invented many things! What would be a good

invention you can create for today? Hint: think of a problem first that

needs a solution.

A contribution is the act of giving or doing something. Think of a time when you made a contribution for your family and draw a picture of

your contribution.

P.E.Play a game of marbles or a game

called Cat’s Cradle using string. Early colonial children played tag as

well as hide and seek.

Think of items people used to do everyday things during Jamestown

times and what we use today. Ex. an ax to cut wood, a chain saw.How are they the same/different?

You know the Pledge of Allegiance. Can you sing The Star-Spangled

Banner, too? Use a pretend microphone and sing to an audience.

LibraryLong ago there were few books, so

many stories were told by “Story Tellers”. Tell your own story to a

family member or favorite stuffed animal.
