First conditional

If I buy a car, I won’t go to work by bus anymore.

• In the first conditional, the condition is a reasonable event in the present or future.

Page 2: First conditional

Second conditional

If I had a helicopter, I wouldn’t go to work by bus anymore.

• In the second conditional, the condition is an impossible or unrealistic event in the present or future.

Page 3: First conditional

Third conditional

• This is the only conditional that talks about the past.

• It is an unrealistic conditional because the condition is always an impossible event in the past (something that didn’t happen)

• Use it to say what would have happened if the past had been different.
