“Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” -Jesus Christ, Mark’s Gospel 1:17 Dear Friends, Jesus said to His first followers that He would make them fishers of men. Men who knew the fishing trade well would now catch men instead of fish. A 1980 Gallup poll indicated that out of all evangelical, American believers, "only two percent had introduced another person to Christ." In all fairness this poll probably does not take into account the other ways that believers are a light and an example of Christ to those around them. At the same time this polls is disturbing because Jesus Christ said that those who follow Him, He will make fishers of men. What inhibits us from being fishers of men? Following other masters that are no masters at all. Not following Jesus daily. Not reading His Word with a realization that the Bible is a living book. Jesus meets us in the Word, in prayer, and with the union of the Holy Spirit. Our own agendas can keep us from being fishers of men. Apathy, which is really a lack of love, can keep us from being fishers of men. Forgetfulness of what God has done for us, in delivering us from our chains, can inhibit us from being fishers of men. Thinking evangelism is for the professionals only-for the clergy or ministry leaders. Fear can keep us from being fishers of men. Concern over what we will say can keep us from being fishers of men. Busyness can keep us from being fishers of men. God did not call us to the good, but the best and part of the best is that if we follow Jesus, we will be fishers of men. If you are a parent, Jesus wants you to start with your own family – your husband, your wife, your children. Andrew started with his own brother Simon Peter. If you have trouble being a fisher of men, I want to encourage you to do something about it. Take a class. Beginning this term, Matt Payson and David Bellows will be leading the Way of the Master class to help better equip the folks here to share Jesus with others. Read from God’s Word about Jesus’ call for us to take the Gospel out to the world. (Matthew 28:18-20, Mark 1:16-20, Mark 16:14-18, Acts 1: 8, Luke 24:44-49) Ask the Lord to place people on your mind who need Him and begin to pray for them and ask them to have coffee with you or invite them over for dinner. “Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”

-Jesus Christ, Mark’s Gospel 1:17

Dear Friends, Jesus said to His first followers that He would make them fishers of men.

• Following other masters that are no masters at all. • Not following Jesus daily. • Not reading His Word with a realization that the Bible is a living book. Jesus meets us in the Word, in prayer,

and with the union of the Holy Spirit. • Our own agendas can keep us from being fishers of men. • Apathy, which is really a lack of love, can keep us from being fishers of men. • Forgetfulness of what God has done for us, in delivering us from our chains, can inhibit us from being fishers

of men. • Thinking evangelism is for the professionals only-for the clergy or ministry leaders. • Fear can keep us from being fishers of men. • Concern over what we will say can keep us from being fishers of men. • Busyness can keep us from being fishers of men. God did not call us to the good, but the best and part of the

best is that if we follow Jesus, we will be fishers of men. If you are a parent, Jesus wants you to start with your own family – your husband, your wife, your children. Andrew started with his own brother Simon Peter.

If you have trouble being a fisher of men, I want to encourage you to do something about it.

• Take a class. Beginning this term, Matt Payson and David Bellows will be leading the Way of the Master class to help better equip the folks here to share Jesus with others.

• Read from God’s Word about Jesus’ call for us to take the Gospel out to the world. (Matthew 28:18-20, Mark 1:16-20, Mark 16:14-18, Acts 1: 8, Luke 24:44-49)

• Ask the Lord to place people on your mind who need Him and begin to pray for them and ask them to have coffee with you or invite them over for dinner. What will you share with them? How Jesus Christ changed your life.

• Campus Crusade for Christ has a clear presentation of the Gospel right online at: http://www.ccci.org/how-to-know-god/would-you-like-to-know-god-personally/index.htm
