As the lead, SNH employs 12 tutors and subcontracts them to the other neighbourhood houses, or runs accredited classes for houses that are not Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).

The 43 community groups run cultural activities and support groups each week, and call SNH home reflecting its motto - Proud of Our Diversity.

The Welcome Café, run by a group of volunteer English Language tutors, provides a "soft entry point" for people with little English, or little knowledge of the delights, support, education and training offered by neighbourhood houses.

The Café is a welcoming place for refugees, asylum seekers, and for long-term residents wanting to practice speaking English. The Welcome Cafe invites participants to join in the many cultural and craft activities on offer, and for

those who are eligible - to join one of the pre-accredited or accredited classes.

Currently there are 355 Skills First learners and 162 ACFE learners enrolled in SNH’s English language and digital literacy courses.

Truly cementing its “by the community for the community” credentials, SNH has 125 volunteers providing 238 hours each week, including 56 volunteer tutors supporting learners one-to-one or in the classroom.

“It has been an amazing journey for a community training provider like ours to have grown and be recognised as a key to providing language, literacy & educational programs accessible to all members of our community. Being part of the Victorian Training Awards helps us fulfil our mission to support & resource community groups undertaking social, cultural and community development activities.” Melanie Virtue, Manager, Springvale Neighbourhood House
