Expanding To Meet The Needs of Our Clients
Finally after many months of preparation, hard work and transitioning, the
Franciscan Kitchen’s new addition is finished and we are back in operation. After a
month long shut down to revamp the existing building and finish construction, we
reopened our doors again on June 29th. The expansion turned out to be magnificent.
The Franciscan Kitchen expanded more than double its size and has room to
accommodate not only more clients, but additional food storage as well. The new
facility provides a much larger dining room with designated space for the handi-
capped and for families. Seating capacity has increased from 66 people in close quar-
ters to 80 people seated comfortably with plenty of room to spare. It also has a more
spacious serving line with a wide hallway leading straight from the kitchen to help in
the efficiency of feeding our guests. While the clients are waiting to be served, they will enter from the side of the building and come
into a 6 foot wide corridor which will help shelter them from the ever changing Kentuckiana weather. Along the entrance wall, 4 foot
high cubbies were specially built and installed to house their belongings while they eat. A restroom was added to the dining area for the
guest’s convenience. And unlike before, the refill drink station now has its own cabinetry, icemaker and sink, which has allowed our
volunteers to better accommodate the needs of our guests. The back half of this new addition has a large warehouse space for food
storage and a new walk-in freezer and cooler were installed. The previous dining room has been divided and converted into an office,
food preparation space, a conference/confessional room, and an exit corridor. We feel so blessed to have expanded our facility and im-
proved the dining experience for our clients. We are extremely grateful to our many donors who made this expansion possible. Thank
you to AML, Dan Critstiani Excavating, LD Campbell Communications and Northside Security for their time and donations in helping
to build this facility. We would also like to offer a special thank you to our Board Member, John Rowan, for his hard work and
dedication in overseeing this project.
If you have any questions about the Franciscan Kitchen’s mission, wish to volunteer, donate, or have a talent and would like to volunteer your services, Please call us at (502) 589-0140. We would love to hear from you and would gladly give you a tour of our facility. With the help of many sharing their talents, God’s people can be cared for and served.
Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words!

All of us here at the Franciscan Kitchen would like to give a big Thank You to the Little Caesars Love Kitchen and all the students from Immaculata Classical Academy for cooking and serving Little Caesar pizzas to our clients on July 23rd. And a special thank you to Mike And Penny Michalak, franchise owners of Little Caesars, who made this day possible. The stu-dents were such a big help and the clients loved the fresh hot pizzas. God bless all of you!

Board Member Elections At our April Board Meeting, we elected four new enthusiastic board members to help with the continual growth and needs of our mission. We would like to welcome Larry Cissell, Dave Dalton, Alan Kissel and Father Charles McCarthy to our board.
St. Pat’s Day We would like to thank the Hibernians for coming to help us serve on St. Patrick’s Day. We appreciate your generosity in preparing and serving our meal. Our clients really enjoyed the festive atmosphere and comradery.

Easter Dinner Once again, St. Margaret Mary Church put on a wonderful Easter feast for our clients. They donated and delivered all the food, as well as sent many of their parishioners to volunteer and serve. Their generosity was truly a blessing and we are so very grateful for all they have done for us over the years!
Due to time constraints and some unexpected complications, we have decided to cancel the Reverse Raffle this year. In lieu of this fundraiser, we will be putting on a Trivia Night at St. Stephen Martyr on September 19, 2015. We hope to see you there!

Alan is the VP Training and Development Manager at Republic Bank. He started volunteering at the kitchen with his wife Angel a little over a year ago when we began serving on the last Saturday of the Month. Alan has offered to oversee the Development and Fundraising Committee and his develop-ment experience will be a huge asset for the continual growth of our mission.
Dave Dalton
Larry is retired from both the military and Dawn Foods. He has volunteered at the Franciscan Kitchen with his wife Fiona for many years now. They have also led the Christmas give away program for several years. Larry has volunteered to help with the Facility Management and Maintenance Committee and is following in his fathers footsteps by serving as a board member.
Alan Kissel Larry Cissell
Dave is a retiree of Dismas Charities and is presently a Deacon at St. Lawrence Church. He is also one of our regular Friday volunteers. He joined the board with the desire to serve those less fortunate. He firm-ly believes all people should be treated with respect and dignity. His genuine compassion to help his fellow man will make him a perfect fit amongst our board.
Mayor Give A Day Week
The week of April 20th - 24th was Louisville’s Mayor Give a Day Week. On Monday, Mayor Greg Fisher stopped by the kitchen to mingle with the guest and speak to us about our needs. It was a pleasure to have him join us. Also, the Franciscan Kitchen was packed with many eager and helpful volunteers. They did various jobs, from prep work for the days meal, organizing toiletries for give away bags, and serving the clients. It was a wonderful week and we always look forward to the generosity of the local community.
Fr. Charles McCar-Fr. Charles is a Franciscan priest who resides at St. Paul’s Church in Louisville. He created and has maintained our Facebook page for quite some time now. He has offered to work on the development committee as well as start a Communication Committee to allow for expansion in vari-ous forms of communication and social me-dia. His technical and communication skills will be a huge asset for our facility.
The Franciscan Kitchen is a nonprofit organization whose primary mission is to serve the homeless and hungry. We operate entirely on donations from charitable benefactors and the generosity of our many volunteers. Through this effort, we are able to serve approximately 400-500 wholesome hot lunches daily, Monday-Friday and the last Saturday of the month.
