Final Exam Prep

• 70 Multiple Choice Questions/ 2 hours

• I will look at the test questions and throw out the ones I wouldn’t ask you.• This will likely be 3-5 questions.

• Your grade will be computed as a simple average of the problems you get right out of the number of questions I keep.

How the test is different from my exams:• No partial credit, so no need to show work

• Some equations won’t be given that I would normally give you: • PV=nRT

• q= mC∆T

• c=λν, E=hc/λ

• Solubility rules are not given, but the common examples are generally on the exam

This test is similar to the ones you are used to because:• The constants you need will be given.

• The polyatomic ions are still something you have to know.

• The material is the same. • But, the hard questions are worth the same as the easy

ones. That could be good OR bad.

How to study?

• I would start with your old exams. Rework them to figure out what you need to focus on and which material you know well.

• Start early…there is a reason you have been preparing all semester for this. Reread notes, but use your book. As you read, rework the in-chapter examples, and then add end of chapter problems if you need more practice.

General Tip:

• Answer the problems that do not require long calculations first.

• Save questions that require long calculations. These may be simple, but may also be time consuming. (I am thinking of limiting reactant problems.) Saving these for later means you can gauge your time better.

BEWARE!If you look for this guide,

understand that the questions are for the ACS exam that covers BOTH

Chem 1 and Chem 2!

• Scroll down to find tons of old national exams and answers.

• Remember that this will include Chem 2 material, so some of the questions will not be relevant to us.

• I will print one or two of these and mark out the problems with Chem 2 material.

Atomic Structure: Ch 2, 7, and 8

This is an example of a question I wouldn’t ask you. But, you can still get credit for this if you think about it

some.

(Think of it as bonus…)

Molecular Structure: Ch 9, 10

Stoichiometry: Ch 3, 4, 5

Energetics: Ch 6/ Ch 9 (BDE)

Electrochem: Ch 4 (Part)
