Talking Points

➔ Unit 4 Math:  This is one of the shortest units we cover in math, but it is a very important unit.  All children will be exposed to long division using the traditional method for two digit divisors.  In order to exceed standards, they will need to be able to divide whole numbers and decimals accurately using the traditional method.  If students choose to use partial quotients, they can only meet standards if they are accurate.  We will be giving quizzes every 23 days to note how your child is progressing.  You will be asked to sign the quizzes.  As usual, when we are ready to give the unit test, you will be notified a week in advance.

➔ In order to explore Science through many activities and experiments, we are assigning reading and note taking on a nightly basis. It is important that your child do their homework so they can apply the information to the activities/experiments.

➔ With the trimester rapidly coming to a close, please take some time to check your child’s progress in PowerSchool and register for a conference time in PTC Wizard.  (The links to both sites can be found on the district’s web page)

➔ Below the Weekly Calendar, you will find information about the Autumn Festival parties.  Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher with any specific questions you may have.

Classroom Autumn Festival parties at Carol Stream School will occur on Friday, October 31st. Festivities will start with our traditional parade at approximately 2:00, followed by classroom parties. Weather permitting, family members are asked to be outside for the afternoon parade, as students will walk through the school, exit the front South Door#3, walk along the sidewalk in front of the building, and enter through the front North Door#9. In order to assure a safe and fun-filled day for all our students, it is important these guidelines are followed:

COSTUMES ● All students need to bring their costumes to school, and will be allowed

to put them on before the afternoon parade. Students will be expected to dress themselves, and apply their own make-up.

● Masks should not be worn due to safety issues

● Costumes exhibiting excessive gore or blood will not be allowed at school.

● No simulated weapons such as guns, swords, pistols, pitchforks, etc. or anything that can be construed as such will be allowed.

ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION HOME ● If a child needs assistance with his/her costume, he/she may be picked up during their

lunchtime in the FRONT OFFICE to go home. Students are to return to school by the end of their lunchtime:

11:45 to 12:25 – 1st Grade 12:05 to 12:45 – K & 2nd Grade 12:25 to 1:05 – 4th & 5th Grade Classroom teachers need to have notes from parents no later than Wednesday, October 29th for every child that will be taken home for lunch, and/or will have an alternative arrangement for transportation home after the classroom party at 3:15. No child will be released to a neighbor, parent, etc. without permission in writing. Students need to be signed in and out at the front office.

PTA ROOM PARTIES PTA volunteers organize classroom parties and donations are also solicited. There will be tables in the hallways for party supplies to be dropped off. According to school policy and food allergy regulations, ONLY store bought treats are allowed. Please, no homemade food items. Room parents are asked NOT to arrive before the parade to set up for afternoon parties. PTA asks that room parents be current PTA members and limits 5 room parents per classroom. After the parade, room parents will need to check in the front office. Parents whose names have been provided to us by the PTA will pick-up their pre-printed visitor sticker if their ID has previously been scanned this school year. Room parents are asked to stop in school well before October 31st to have their ID scanned. We ask that younger siblings not accompany parents to room parties since this may distract from the activities planned for Carol Stream students.

Your cooperation in these matters is greatly appreciated.
