Artemis by Andy Weir (author of the best seller The Martian)Jazz Bashara lives in Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, as a full-time porter and part-time smuggler of Earth luxuries. A financial opportunity knocks when high-level businessman Trond hires her to sabotage Sanchez Aluminum’s harvesters. Jazz takes the job, which leads to much mayhem, the overthrow of the beloved Artemis administrator, and the potential death of everyone on the moon.

Story of Arthur Truluv by Elizabeth BergFor the past six months, Arthur Moses’s days have looked the same: He tends to his rose garden and to Gordon, his cat, then rides the bus to the cemetery to visit his beloved late wife for lunch. The last thing Arthur would imagine is for one unlikely encounter to utterly transform his life. Eighteen-year-old Maddy Harris is an introspective girl who visits the cemetery to escape the other kids at school. Moved by Arthur’s kindness and devotion, Maddy gives him the nickname “Truluv.” A moving novel of compas-sion in the face of loss, of small acts that turn friends into family, and of achieving happiness at any age.

Year One by Nora RobertsIt began on New Year’s Eve. The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magick rose up in its place. In a world of survivors, where every stranger encountered could be either a savage or a sav-ior, none of them knows exactly where they are heading, or why. But a purpose awaits them that will shape their lives and the lives of all those who remain. The end has come. The beginning comes next.

Wanted by Robert CraisIt seemed like a simple case--before the bodies starting piling up. When single mother Devon Connor hires private investigator Elvis Cole, it’s because her troubled teenage son Tyson is flashing cash, and she’s afraid he’s dealing drugs. But the truth is devastatingly different. They stole the wrong thing from the wrong man. Determined to get it back, he has hired a team that is smart and brutal, leaving a trail of bodies in their wake. Investigator Elvis Cole and his partner, Joe Pike, take on the deadliest case of their lives in the new masterpiece of suspense.

At the October 3rd meeting of the Executive Board of the Friends of the Pekin Public Library, Treasurer Marilyn Southwood reported that income for the third quarter was $2,502.87 and all due to book sales. Expenses for the same quarter was $1,164.21, of which $1,000 was for the exterior mural project on the north side of the building along Broadway (to be installed in October) plus the September newsletter.

The Board discussed how it might use the $1,000 donation received earlier in the year. The consensus was to purchase a piece of art from a local artist to display in the book sale room above the coffee counter. Over the next few months, Board members will visit the studios of area artists.

Also approved at the meeting was the purchase of a three-shelf book display cart and small plastic display boxes for the book sale room.

Finally, the Board approved the Director’s request of $3,124 for the purchase of a tabletop display case for the Local History Room, two PC’s for adult collaboration stations, two indoor American flag pole sets for the new, large meeting rooms, and a contribution to the annual Friends’ Staff Appreciation Christmas event.
