Thank you to all of you who have
supported the PTO events so far! We
have had a wonderful Homecoming
Dance, sold candygrams, and put on a
fun fall BBQ. Additionally, we have
been able to recognize students by
celebrating those that made all As and
made the A/B honor roll.
The PTO is also preparing for our
largest fundraiser of the year: Desserts
of Amelia. All the money raised from
this event goes directly to the teachers
and their classrooms. If you are able
to help with this event please attend
the next PTO meeting, or email Jaime
Conner, the Desserts of Amelia chair,
We have several committee leadership
positions still open. We are seeking
volunteers to serve as co-chairs for:
● Spring Fling ( a fun carnival
for students held at the end
of the school day in May)
● Dance Committee (to plan
at least one more dance in
the spring)
Please reach out to the PTO if you are
interested in volunteering for these
positions.
There are several ways to stay in-
formed about upcoming PTO events:
● If you are not receiving peri-
odic emails from the PTO,
please send a message to
[email protected] to be
added to our distribution list.
● Remind app for smartphones
(contact front office for in-
structions to sign up)
● Parent-run Facebook page
(visit Facebook and search
for Fernandina Beach Middle
School Network, ask for per-
mission to join)
Thanks again for your support!
A Message from Our P.T.O.
Go Pirates!
Happy holidays to all Fernandina Beach Mid-
dle School students and parents! Thanksgiving
vacation seemed to sneak up on us all this year
and before we know it, it will soon be time for
Christmas break! December is typically a very
busy month for FBMS students, teachers, and
parents so get ready! There will be several
festive events this season including the
Yuletide Evening with the Arts on December
14th. The end of the first semester and second
grading period will be Friday, December 22nd.
The first day of Christmas vacation will be
Monday, December 25th, which means that
Friday, December 22nd, will be a half day with
early dismissal for students at 12:30 p.m.
There will be a teacher planning day on Mon-
day, January 8th which means there will be no
school for students. Students will return to
school on Tuesday, January 9th. From our
FBMS Faculty and Staff, we wish you and
your family a happy holiday and New Year.

We will be mailing home Notice of Possible Retention letters for all year courses in January of 2018. If your child
receives one of these notices we suggest you sit down and discuss topics such as homework completion, nightly
review of each day’s assignments/class work, and preparing better for tests. Most students experience academic
difficulty due to missed assignments, incomplete work, omitting homework, and not preparing well for tests. We
encourage all students to use their agenda books to record homework and assignments. If a conference is needed
with a teacher, please call the Guidance Office (491-7938) to schedule a conference.
We would like to welcome all our new students and their families that have enrolled with us since school has be-
gun. In the first nine weeks grading period, we had 303 students make the “A” and the “A/B” Honor Roll. We are
very proud of their achievements! We look for continued success of our students. Remember to continue to check
FOCUS for assignments and grades. Assignments are posted weekly and grades are posted at least every two
weeks. Our next report card will be sent home Tuesday, January 16th, 2018. All teacher conferences are scheduled
through the Guidance Office (491-7938) and are available on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings begin-
ning at 8:10 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Each conference is scheduled for 20 minutes. We try to have the entire team of
teachers meet when a conference is scheduled so everyone has knowledge of a student’s progress and any concerns
expressed by parent or another teacher. We strive to work as a team to support the progress and success of all our
students.
Students in seventh grade Civics this semester will have a state level EOC which will
count for 30% of their final grade in Civics. This test is computer based and the length
of the test is two 80 minute sessions. Students are allowed to leave after a ten minute
break after the first 80 minutes if they have completed the exam. Each student will also
have a worksheet in which to make notes, etc. Our Civics EOC will be administered on
Tuesday, December 12, 2017 with make-ups on December 13, 2017. This exam will
be administered again during May of 2018 for students that take this course second
semester.
The registration for high school courses will take
place during the second semester usually in Febru-
ary. There will be an opportunity for parents to
meet with high school personnel one evening be-
fore registration begins. Students will take home
registration forms to be filled out with parent input.
Parents are asked to sign registration forms so you
are aware of courses that your student has chosen.
Many courses are dependent upon the 8th grade
standardized test scores. We will be sending more
information home when plans with the high school
are finalized. Questions about high school registra-
tion and courses should always be directed to the
Fernandina Beach High School counselors.

Do You WANT
YOUR PHOTOS IN THE 2018 FBMS YEARBOOK?
We do!!!
Students, parents, and teachers may contribute to the yearbook by uploading photos directly to the
eShare website. We are especially interested in photos of school events such as sports, performances,
field trips, etc. We also would love to have your photos involving FBMS students engaging in their fa-
vorite non-school activities such as surfing, skateboarding, hiking, biking, dancing, hanging out with
friends...whatever it is that you do! Submit as many photos as you would like for the yearbook staff to
consider for publication in the FBMS Yearbook. It’s easy! Just go to www.hjeshare.com or click on the
link. Our school code is “treasure” and the deadline for eSharing photos is early March. Please contact
Ms. Hall, FBMS Art Teacher & Yearbook Advisor, if you have any questions (email: ju-
[email protected] or phone: 321-5867 ext 2457).
