SAINTS & FEASTS FOR THE WEEK …

Monday Feast of Saint James, Apostle

He is called the ‘Greater’ because his vocation to serve Christ preceded that of the other apostle of the same name. He was the son of Zebedee, and was called by Jesus together with his brother John. James was one of the three apostles, along with Peter and John, who witnessed the Transfiguration and the agony in the Garden of Gethsemane. He was condemned to death by Herod Agrippa and beheaded in the year 44, the first martyr among the apostles.

Tuesday Saints Joachim & Anne

It was in the home of Joachim and Anne where the Virgin Mary received her training to be the Mother of God. Thus devotion to Anne and Joachim is an extention of affection Christians have always professed towards our Blessed Mother.

Wednesday Blessed Robert Sutton

(1588) Blessed Robert Sutton was born at Burton upon Trent in 1547. As a clergyman of the Established Church he was Rector of Lutterworth. He was converted to Catholicism through the influence of his younger brother and they were ordained as priests with a third brother. He was arrested in Stafford in 1588 and executed there.

Friday Saint Martha

Our Lord liked the home of Saint Martha, her brother Lazarus, and her sister Mary. As our Lord’s friends in Bethany, they took loving care of him.

Saturday Saint Peter Chrysologus

(Fifth Century) As Bishop of Ravenna, Italy, he was outstanding in his apostolic zeal, for his preaching and his writings.

Day of Pilgrimage

Sunday 21 August from 12 noon at Aston Hall,

Nr Stone.

Open Air Mass 3pm, Holy Door & Veneration of the Relic of Blessed Dominic Barberi, Confession available, Proces-sion of the Blessed Sacrament after Mass.

Thank you …

Redditch Catholic Fellowship would like to thank St Benedict’s for their kind donation of £161.00 raised through the ‘Cards on the Bar’. Many thanks for your continued support.
