A Message From Our Pastor Jesus said to his disciples: "To you who hear I say, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you." (Lk 6:27) This is a call we have receive from God... love your enemies. It is not a naive, blind behavior that takes away our defense system. Jesus Christ doesn’t talk here in military categories. To love your enemies doesn’t mean to be passive and allow to happen whatever comes your way. It is rather a spiritual understanding that we want to bring to God, even our enemies. To love them means to wish them eternal life with God. It can only happen if we are able to forgive each other, wish them all the best, and be open to helping them in times of need. It is not your enemy who will pay you back, because your payment will be in heaven. In Christ's Peace, Fr. The Great Hall was filled with approximately 50 people working hard on fleece blankets and quilts. Several new people were added to our Project Linus roster, would you like to come find out about our group? We received many compliments from visitors from other churches for hosting such a major event, hats off to Pax Christi.

Our next meeting will be March 16th from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. Come discover our friendly spirit. Contact Colette with questions at [email protected].

Freshening Up the Great Hall Most of us have experienced the joy that follows after getting an over-due haircut. Both Parish Staff and the Stewardship Council have been making minor changes (“just a trim”) in the Great Hall. Our goals are to make this space more welcoming for small and large fellowship, improve communications and awareness of resources, and eliminate clutter/unused items.

Ideally, our finances would allow the purchase of new items such as round tables and comfortable chairs. At this time, our parish budget is tight. Any changes reflect a respect of your generous weekly offertory in that we are re-purposing existing items and reviving stored items. Please be patient over the next few weeks as we “freshen up” our parish space with “a little trim.”

Music Ministry The issue of "too-loud" organ music is not uncommon in many denominations. Personally, and in talking with many organists, I've heard a lot of these complaints. There is likely some truth on both sides of the argument — there is also misunderstanding involved. Registrations used for congregational singing must always be loud enough to support the singing, without overpowering the voices. Many have told me that they cannot hear the choir when the organ is playing. That is because the organ is supposed to be accompanying the entire assembly, not just the choir. I am speaking now of the registration used for hymns, and the sung items of the Ordinary. Remember that there are different types of hymns, even ones that might be used as Entrance Hymns. A sturdy registration that is useful for "Praise to the Lord" may not be what is needed for "The King of Love My Shepherd Is." Even on strong, majestic hymns like "Crown Him with Many Crowns," every verse should not be the same volume level. When the organ was being installed I sat in different sections of the church as the installer played a hymn using typical hymn registration. I was amazed at how much the sound changed as I moved out of the music section. The more people there are at Mass, the more sound is absorbed and covered. If you use the same registrations at the 8:30 a.m. Mass that you would at the 10:30 a.m. "Family Mass" (with babies and children), the organ will sound much too loud at the early, less crowded Mass. If I hear a complaint about the organ being too loud, I assume that the critic is trying to be constructive. So, I seek details. I want to know when the organ was too loud. Only in the most extreme cases could I imagine that it was overbearing for the entire Mass — Was the Entrance Hymn too loud? Or better, was it the last verse of the Entrance Hymn? Was the cantor's accompaniment on the psalm verses too loud? Where were you sitting? These are all things I have discussed with the organist. Next week, a word to the critic.
