Dear Friends, Healing the Broken- Breath for the Dried Up. It was reported on the radio that 1000 broken limbs were treated in hospitals during the icy weather in Co Cork alone. One thousand and rising as our own parishioners joined the queues in A&E! It is an understatement to say these have been trying times for all of us over the last few months - first the floods and then the freeze. Thankfully most of us escaped unscathed but to those who are still nursing injuries we extend our prayerful good wishes. Bones do of course have a remarkable ability to heal. Even be- fore you get to a doctor the healing process com- mences. Doctors simply cooperate with nature in the way they treat fractures. And cooperation is ultimately the quality that is required if our discipleship is to have any depth, commitment and joy. Cooperating with God’s Spirit. Breath of God In Ezekiel’s vision of the valley of dry bones ( a picture of God’s people, dried up and without hope) the prophecy came: “Dry bones hear the word of the Lord! I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life,” and in the vision, “there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together …tendons and flesh appeared.” And with another prophecy “breath entered them.” (Ezekiel 37) The Bible tells us that from the beginning of creation to the giving of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, God longs for our willingness to coop- erate. Failure to do so leads to life becoming a drudgery and a form of slavery. Churches become moribund. Cooperation leads to life, healing and the pleasure of God. He longs to awaken the dead to thaw hearts that have become icy and indifferent to Him. He longs to make churches vibrant, caring bodies of grace, signposts of the Kingdom of God in the world. New Wine Visit – welcome back George Newell. We are delighted therefore to welcome to Carrigrohane Union the Rev David McClay, the Leader of New Wine Ireland. New Wine simply tries to be a channel to encourage Christians to live the life of the Spirit and prioritise Kingdom living.. David and a team from Willowfield Parish Belfast , including George Newell who sent sev- eral years here ministering in Blarney, are coming to run a special programme to which members of other churches are welcome. Our busyness as a Union of Churches is terrific, it reflects so much passion, but we always need to ask the question; are we busy about the right things God wants for us? on their recent trip.Saturday February 27th,

7pm, Parish CentreEveryone welcome!

For a week in January while Ireland froze Bill & Janettravelled with a group from Tearfund Ireland to understand

the work Tearfund sponsors in Cambodia. It was an inspirational trip where we saw an impoverishedcountry being helped to its feet by local church organisa-tions living out their faith in deeds and words. Trafficked

children care, HIV/AIDS education and terminal care, teenage drug abuse rehabilitation, mother and baby care, income generation, schooling for disabled and able bodied

children and more besides are all being undertaken byTearfund supported local faith based organisations.

We are now looking for at least one newhelper. April and Ruth have beenreviewing the Lighthouse andgave parents and leaders a questionnaire in January. The results

have been really encouraging – the Lighthouse is a real hit. Comments include‘Kids love it...Great for families together....Non-cringy way of sharing Biblestories...good to being doing something in church with the kids... Fun andworship together’. As a result of this process, the structure of the afternoon willchange slightly and the time has moved to 3.30 – 5pm. We were hampered withthe weather in January but it is important that the news about this club is gossipedaround. April particularly puts a lot of hard work into preparation and ‘if kids come,

they will want to comeagain’. So, would you beinterested in comingalong – or bringing somechildren along to give itago. Invite yourneighbours or friends – itreally is open to every-one. The next Lighthouseis on Sunday, 21st Febru-ary, 3.30-5pm, when wewill be telling Hannah’sstory. Helpers are alwayswelcome, especially men.

The following article appeared in the Muskerry News:Blarney Community Playschool was the recipient of a pre-Christmas fundraising event organised by Blarney Growth Group. The group is an inter-church bible study and prayer group thatmeets in The Church of the Resurrection in Blarney on Thursdayevenings. They have just finished a course called 'Just People'which was all about justice and the needs of people in both ourlocal and international communities, part of which to do some-thing practical to help a local community organisation. The grouphad heard Sheila Barrett talk about her work in the CommunityPlayschool and its needs, and they unanimously decided to runa jumble sale to raise funds for the playschool. The jumble salewas held in Scoil Mhuire gan Smal. The Church of the Resurrec-tion also hosted a wonderful concert in December. The re-nowned City of Cork Male Voice Choir very kindly donated theirtime and considerable talents to the church for the concert whichalso raised funds for Blarney Community Playschool.

Our prayers & best wishes go with Martyn & NaomiTyrrell as they move to live in England this month.

We will miss them!We congratulate Trevor &Diane on the safe arrivalof Amy—and rejoice withthem and the wholeMartin family.
