What & When Is First fruits?The day following the sabbath during Passover iscalled the Feast of First Fruits (Leviticus 23:10-11).The observance was carried out in thismanner, when the standing ripe harvest of barleyand wheat was ready to be reaped. The celebrantwould take one sheaf from the standing harvest andbring it to the priest. The lone sheaf was called "thesheaf of the first fruits." The priest was then to takethis one sheaf and wave it before the Lord in Hishouse. This was to be done "the day after thesabbath." Prescribed offerings were also to bepresented along with the sheaf.19

  34. 34. What Is The Feast of Trumpets?Rosh HaShanah marks the Jewish New Yearand is a part of the season of repentance.Rosh in Hebrew means "chief or head" andshanah means "year." Rosh HaShanah is thehead of the year on the civil calendar, and isalso known as the birthday of the world sincethe world was created on this day(Talmud, Rosh Hashanah 11a). Jewishtradition believes that Adam was created onthis day (Mishnah, San Hedrin 38b).34

When Is The Feast of Trumpets?A special season known asTeshuvah, which in Hebrew means "toreturn or repent," begins on the first day ofthe month of Elul and continues 40days, ending with Yom Kippur. Herehe sprinkled the blood on the mercy seat. Theblood of the sin offering on the great Day ofAtonement brought about the cleansing of allsin for the priesthood, the sanctuary, and Israelas a nation (Leviticus 16:29-34).40
