and a half acres of the most spectacular gardens and grounds, and also boasts a charming two-bedroom cottage. “It was the sheer beauty of the location and the house that drew both my husband and I to the property twenty years ago,” says Pamela. “And although back then it was in a pretty poor state of repair, my husband could see that with a bit of hard work and imagination it had the potential to be transformed into a quite exceptional family home, and that’s exactly what he did.”

“Absolutely everything needed attention. The rooms had to be replastered, the whole house had to be rewired, the plumbing system had to be overhauled… However, when it came to the interior we wanted to retain its absolute wealth of character and charm and so all of the beautiful original features were restored and enhanced, and we decorated throughout using heritage paint colours and sumptuous fabrics and furnishings. It’s a very imposing house and each of the rooms boast wonderfully grand proportions, but ultimately it’s a really comfortable family home.”

“My husband worked hard to renovate the house and he also did a splendid job landscaping what are now absolutely beautiful gardens and grounds,” continues Pamela. “The outside space was a bit of a bog when we came here, but over time he created manicured lawns, pretty pathways, a large pond area, lots of shrubs and flowers that create colour and interest all year round, and there are also a number of lovely places to just sit out and soak it all in. It’s matured beautifully over the years and so the view from the house is now quite magnificent; it’s a real slice of paradise.”

“It’s so hard to pick a favourite room because they are all so lovely, but I particularly like the two main bedrooms. They are both very large and very elegantly decorated, and they both enjoy tremendous views across the gardens and the trees beyond.”

“What makes the location so very special is the fact that within the hose and indeed the garden you get the feeling of being miles from anywhere, and yet it takes under five minutes to drive into the lovely village of Tutbury, I can be in Uttoxeter in fifteen minutes or Derby in half an hour so I’ve never felt isolated.”

“Adjacent to the main house is Manor Cottage, a very elegant two-bedroom dwelling that was built in exactly the same style as the manor. It’s very spacious and we used it to accommodate our housekeeper, but it could be ideal for a dependent relative or simply used for visiting friends and family.”

“The house is just stunning and it’s such a warm and welcoming home, but it’s the garden that I think I’ll miss most when I leave,” says Pamela. “It’s a magical place, so beautiful to look at and such a tranquil place to be.”*
