Greetings Sisters
and Brothers in Christ Jesus!
Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed!
And am I ever glad. How about you?
All during this past Lenten season I tried to focus on looking for the
ways that Christ is risen—IN ME. It was a good exercise because it
made me more and more aware of how I reflect the very fact that the
Jesus we saw crucified is also the Christ who was raised—then, and
now. And that’s an important thing for all of us to remember.
If we say we are disciples of Jesus Christ, and that he is Lord of our
lives, how do others see that? Are we open and loving to all people
simply because God created them? No matter what their belief? Do
they know that we know that they are precious in the sight of God?
Or, do we harbor reservations about the worth of those who may not
believe how we do, or may not believe at all?
How do we pass on the love of Christ that we receive each and every
time we share his Holy Meal? Do others know we are Christians by
our love, by our love, do they know we are Christians by our love?
When we BE Christians in the world are others drawn to us or away
from us? If so, way to go. If not, well, we’ve got more work to do.
During Lent some of us studied with our Bishop Dave and others
around the synod. What we talked about is the way we have done
“church” and how we might need to look at doing “church.”
Most of us are familiar with the notion of a three-tiered step to being
a Christian. We have assumed that the only way a person can be a
Christian is to: First believe. Then reflect that belief in our behavior.
And then to truly belong to the Church/congregation.
With the ongoing decline in church membership AND attendance,
we really need to maybe change our ways. And so we thought about:
What if we, by our behavior, draw seekers/visitors/lapsed, etc, to
want to engage with us again or at all? What if people find a place
to belong because they are welcomed and accepted whoever they are
and whatever they believe or don’t believe? -continued

Victor’s Cross
Also called the conqueror’s
cross, the victor's cross is composed of the
Greek cross, recognized by its four equal
arms, adorned with Greek letters in each
quadrant. The top left letters stand for “Jesus”
and the top right, for “Christ” (the horizontal
lines above them indicate they’re
abbreviations). The four letters across the
bottom spell the Greek word for “conqueror.”

What if they found out we are truly interested
in them: their lives, their dreams, their gifts
and talents? (Getting to know you, getting to
know all about you . . .) What if they felt like
they have a place with us?
Could that possibly lead to belief? I’ll let you
ponder that for awhile. My answer is YES!
Happens all the time. And the people who call
Faith Lutheran Church home are already pretty
good at welcoming people. You, whether you
call it that or not, are, by intuition (the power
of the Holy Spirit!) already acting in terms of
belong, behavior, and belief.
I hope what you are reading here causes you to
recognize that great gift you offer to those who
need a touch of God. And, as you recognize it,
I hope you will also decide to be more
intentional in the use of that gift. I pray you,
too, will look for the ways CHRIST IS RISEN!
IN YOU, TOO!
You are the light of the world! Go into that
world, an intentional advocate for Jesus and his
love.
Happy Easter, praise the Lord, Hallelujah,
thank you Jesus!
Your sister in Christ’s love, Pastor Dawn

Congregations that approach financial stewardship from a biblical perspective do not view
the money Christians give to their church merely as a way to pay its bills. Rather, such
congregations see financial contributions as a way to help people grow spiritually in their
relationship with God by supporting their church’s mission and ministry with a percentage
of their incomes.
Our congregation’s Stewardship and Resources committee has selected the New
Consecration Sunday Stewardship Program as a way to teach the biblical and spiritual
principles of generous giving in our stewardship education emphasis this year.
New Consecration Sunday is based on the biblical philosophy of the need of the giver to give
for his or her own spiritual development, rather than on the need of the church to receive.
Instead of treating people like members of a social club who should pay dues, we will treat
people like followers of Jesus Christ who want to give unselfishly as an act of discipleship.
New Consecration Sunday encourages people toward proportionate and systematic giving in
response to the question, “What percentage of my income is God calling me to give?”
During morning worship on Consecration Sunday, we are asking our attendees and members
to make their financial commitments to our church’s missionary, benevolent, and educational
ministries in this community and around the world.
Every attendee and member who completes an Estimate of Giving Card does so voluntarily
by attending morning worship on Consecration Sunday. We urge people to attend who feel
strongly opposed to completing a card. The procedure is done in such a way that no one feels
personal embarrassment if he or she chooses not to fill out a card.
We will do no home solicitation to ask people to complete cards. During morning worship
our guest leader will conduct a brief period of instruction and inspiration, climaxed by
members making their commitments as a confidential act of worship.
We will encourage participation in Consecration Sunday events through the Consecration
Sunday team and governing board members. Since we will make no follow-up visits to ask
people to complete their cards, we will make every effort to inform, inspire, and commit
everyone to attend Consecration Sunday worship.
Thanks in advance for your enthusiastic participation in Consecration Sunday events.
John Daniels, Council President
……………………
Easter greetings to you!
On the morning of Palm Sunday we worshiped at our home church in Sioux Falls. That evening we worshiped at a Quichua church in south Minneapolis (about 240 miles from home). David especially enjoyed it because he hasn't heard, clapped to, or sung along with Quichua worship choruses for almost two years. His highlight was our being invited to the 9 PM meal, held right after the two-hour service. True to Ecuadorian style, they generously served us tasty food, on top of a plateful of rice, more food than what we could eat, especially since we had already had supper before church.
Now, for a verse in Salasaca Quichua from the triumphal entry: Jesús [Jerusalén cuchumu] chayu-shaga Jesus [Jerusalem near-to ] arrive-when
When Jesus arrived near Jerusalem, [chi puebloda] ricusha huacuga. [that town-OBJ] seeing cry-past.tense. seeing that town, he cried.
This is so like Jesus, isn't it? He has just been hailed as King by the crowds and wildly escorted into Jerusalem with garments strewing his path and palm branches waving in the air. He makes no acceptance speech but instead pours out his sorrow over the populace's lack of understanding and its future troubles; he weeps because they are misguided and unwilling to be helped. Oh, that we would be more like Jesus, walking in humble obedience to God and concerned for the welfare of others, even those who might turn against us.
April is just around the corner. Please pray for our upcoming consultant check from April 1 (no fooling!) to April 5.

Sunday School Happenings
A loud “huzzah” for our substitute teacher, Jon Aaberg. He has with good cheer agreed to stand in
for Diane Collet and Cheryl Blum when they are unable to be there for the class. One Sunday he was
blessed with being the teacher for both classes at the same time for a total of thirteen children! He said
they used “inside voices”, did the lesson and ended with prayer. Good job Jon and good job all thirteen
children!
Anyone who is interested in what happens at Day Camp please consider coming to the workshop that
Camp Lutherwood will be presenting at Faith Lutheran, April 20, Saturday from 9 – noon. We will
learn all about what is planned and have coffee and things to munch on. Please come.
We have been singing the hymn “Amazing Grace” during Sunday School
opening. Some kids were heard to say they had been singing that at Sunday
School when they heard the hymn in a different context. The intent is to have
Sunday School more integrative with church by using the hymnal and learning
hymns and for the children to be more aware of hymns.
See you in Sunday School.

Easter. It is about more than an open tomb. It is the good news
of the risen Christ who opens lives.
Think about Jesus' friends after his death. Their lives were closed down by fear, disappointment
and confusion. The risen Christ appeared saying "peace be with you" and opened their lives with a
liberating word of reconciliation. In the same way Christ opens your life with a baptismal promise
that joins your life to his death and resurrection. "You are my child. Nothing in all creation will
separate you from my love."
Even now Christ is opening your life, your daily work, your passions and imagination. Christ is
opening your daily life into a holy calling that fills the world with love. At the Lord’s table, Christ
is opening you into a community that can bear even suffering with confidence, and sorrow with
hope.
The risen Christ opens the Scriptures — the full depth of God's promise made to Sarah and
Abraham now coming to life in the new creation. Even when everything else is being stripped
away, the risen Christ opens you to God's promised future.
Christ opens you to God's work of forgiveness and reconciliation. Jesus Christ, raised from the
dead, is opening this way of life for you.
In God's grace,
The Rev. Mark S. Hanson, Presiding Bishop
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
