Faculty Wellness ProgramSupport for Northwestern University faculty
Northwestern’s Faculty Wellness Program, offered by the Office of the Provost, assists full-time faculty members who are experiencing difficulties in their professional or personal lives.
In addition to the demands of their personal and family lives, faculty members balance roles as teachers, researchers, mentors, and managers. Three-quarters of university faculty report moderate to high stress levels, and 10 percent report serious levels of stress. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused additional stress for many. High levels of stress and personal problems can interfere with professional success and create obstacles to research, teaching, and working with others.
The Faculty Wellness Program provides faculty the opportunity to consult with faculty director Richard Carroll, PhD, regarding resources to address these and other concerns. Carroll, associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Feinberg School of Medicine, is a licensed clinical psychologist who has vast experience working with university faculty and extensive understanding of academic life and pressures.
